The kid is an athlete, but let's hope he can hit better than he did this year.

Jones at SS. Not so sure. If i am not mistaken, last year was the first time he has played infield. He is more of an outfielder. Yocum's inability to hit is what allowed him to stay in the infield and had us on a search for a center fielder. To automatically assume he will move to SS next year worries me. Right now we are without a true SS for next year. He is a good athlete, but that doesn't make for a good SS.

Rhymes to 2nd, Bergmen to SS, Jacoby to Center.

I suspect the top 5-6 schools in the SEC will be equally loaded. In the SEC you have to be talent loaded just to compete.

I think if hitting was the only issue we'd see Jones in center field tomorrow and Yokum at second. Surely Yokum can't be as unproductive as Arby's been lately.

I think Yokum's range is an issue as well.

If this really is true then why would our coaches spend money or waste the time to recruit him?

Has anyone ever spelled Yocom's name correctly in the history of the Rant?

Are you kidding? Recruting is not an exact science. This happens in every sport every year.

I'm not even sure Yocum will be here next year. He might get Watkins'd

and Jacoby played SS in high school and he has very good range at 2B and a decent arm, he also has a good glove. I see no reason why he couldn't slide over to SS if he needed to. But I'm not sure if our coaches want to move him, I guess it will depend on Bregman and the other possible SSs ability to play good D.

For those on the bubble, needing to step up or else, this is what CPM uses summer ball for. They need to prove themselves capable of stepping up to SEC calibar play or else. This is part of what each returning players' exit interview encompasses.

True, but the range a kid has is not about exact science. It's about his foot work and I think that can be noticed when the player is watched in live action at any level.

I can't argue that point but we both know coaches often misjudge when evaluating a recruit's abilities.

Its also a numbers game. Schools don't always get who they want and at times take the best available and hope for the best.

Per Mainieri

quote:

“We’ll look at him as a shortstop and see if he can do it there,” Mainieri said. “But he might also have a shot of playing third base or catching. He’s a pretty versatile guy, and with our first priority being to replace that left side, it’s big for us to get a kid of Alex’s caliber.”

TSD on Bregman

I dont see him catching with Ross already here and Chinea on the way, unless chinea changes positions. Looks like SS or 3B.

Fields will be lucky if he makes the team next year he's garbage... I think jones will stay at 2nd he fits in really well there, i don't think he could handle SS

i hope edward and fields get cut because it means we have decent players coming in. i'm sure they're great guys and love their mothers and all but, as far as baseball goes, they have not been good. fields has potential but, he's really fading

Edward can atleast hit he's not going to get cut, fields however can't really do much he has decent range in the OF to go along with a sub par arm... he should have stuck with football
