I don't want to start another thread, so I'll ask. I still maintain that, because of the brief moment Wing extended his arms and then immediately brought them down, the official had discretion. But let's say the official was entirely correct with the call. Does anyone here really think that Wing's (or any player's)actions should result in a removal of points from the board? Honest to God, do some of you really think that was the sort of taunting the NCAA is trying to eliminate?
It's a bullshite rule. The Ref did what he was instructed to do. Points being taken away on bulshit like that compounds the problem.

Without a doubt.
But you will see worse not called because most officials set the bar very high as to what will be called (rightfully so). And because of the subjective nature of the call, it is very reasonable for the call to be criticized.
Obviously it is meant to curb the blatant excessive taunting. It is not meant to be calked on a kid who raises his hand in excitement.

I'm sorry. I just learned how to quote this year. It will probably be next year before I could link anything, and I will never be able to link something from my DVR.
If you have access to a copy of the game, DVR or otherwise, find the alleged horse collar play on Ware. It looked like a horse collar from my stadium seat, but upon further review, it looks to me that he somehow was able to grab his jersey only, and not the pads.
The Florida player gets up and celebrates a good one on one open field tackle by slashing his throat toward the sidelines. I didn't have a problem with it, and still don't.
But, if Wing's actions are going to not only penalize a team in yards, but points, then where does this Florida player's gesture fall?
Or what the Adams kid did in the Arkansas game?
This situation is exactly like the call in the Penn St. swim meet at the Cap One Bowl where we were flagged for tossing a defender off of our ball carrier with an expiring clock. The poster Arrakis, aka 62zip, argued that it was the right call. That you never see opposing players grabbing or pulling players off of a pile without being flagged.
Then the Saints promptly went out and kicked an opening second half onside kick that saw multiple players from both teams being pulled off the pile by opposing team players in the biggest stage of all, the Super Bowl. NO FLAGS. Great judgement by the officials.
You will see actions far exceeding those of Wing the rest of this season, in the SEC and otherwise, and there will be NO FLAGS.
This particular flag on Wing happened when I was walking up the ramp to my seat. Never saw it until the replay. I was expecting to see something flagrant, and never expected to have any disucssion with anyone regarding it. But, after having to slow down the play and freeze frame it to detect it, I can see why people would be upset, even though it didn't change the outcome of the game.
Sure, it could result in cutting down on the more egregious offenses.
But, it is more likely to open the door for more bullshite debate, and take away from the game itself. Maybe even decide the outcome of a season, much less a game. Steven Patrick decided it was high time we kick the first domino, and he was the man for the job.

Judgement is judgement. It's a judgement call and the ref displayed pi$$ poor judgement.

What does any of this have to do with the new rule?

Really?
You asked for an example of a gesture in that game that was more flagrant?
I gave you one.
And added a lot more just to get it off my chest. Everything stated in my post has to do with the new rule, officiating affecting the outcome of a game, and another example of an official not willing to admit a mistake in judgement, but clarifying by saying that officials make mistakes.
They just don't admit them.

So...anybody know the name of the Back Judge?
I'd like to know.
I'd like to know.

Does anyone have Slive's address or the head of officals address? Know nothing would change if we told them what we thought, but it might help the future.

It's mentioned several times.
Steven Patrick.
Surprisingly, no one has mentioned any details about him. I thought he did a bang up job of trying to get his name out there.
He needs to work harder.

This rule was made to satisfy overly sensitive fans who objected to "thuggish" players celebrating and making the players feel bad when they scored. The blame should go to Mr. Wing. This rule has probably been force fed down the teams throat to ensure they don't get these stupid penalties. Wing was dumb and was penalized for what was an outward expression of that stupidity. He knew the rules, follow them.

His post was right on target, IMO.
The bottom line is the referee exercised very poor judgement on a rule that is ridiculous to begin with.

You gotta love 50 year old posters who need to make alters to make a point.
I wonder how many alters he has in this thread.

I'm pretty sure every example you gave was after the play was over. Again, I don't agree with the rule.
