Thanks.

I'm excited about the game and I'm just as nervous as I was on November 5th. I just love some college ball.

I honestly believe that most Tide (and LSU) alums over 30 are pretty much like this guy - loves the team and the game in a sensible way.

Unfortunately, the obnoxious are just noticed more. I deal with Longhorn (similar to Alabama) folks here in Austin daily and most are reasonable and very good to talk football with.

It also gets trickier when you are immersed in a fanbase.

because they are. And if LSU wins it's 3rd National Championship in 8 years, it will join the ranks.

I would agree with that statement 100%. If anyone watched the RT/WE documentary then that was definitely apparent. I don't think they could have shown the backwoods redneck stereotype anymore than that.

Why do Bama fans walk around like they are the royalty of college football? They had a run in the seventies and have won 2 NC in the last 32 years. It boggles the mind.

I walk around like a normal person and can talk intelligently about football without being a douchebag.

The way I see it, people are going to talk and you can't stop that. You gotta learn to let it roll off your back and keep going. Sometimes you gotta ignore the ones that are acting that way and just worry about the ones that seem to be good people.

Every team has fans that seem to be ignorant and just want to sit around and beat their chest and scream we're awesome and whatever else. But if you actually stop and think about it, there are more fans out there that just love college football and everything that goes with it and those are the ones that you can walk up to and talk about the game with or go to their tailgate and have a beer and have a good time.

We lost on November 5th and I never expected us to be playing for the NC but things happened and the teams ahead of us lost causing us to back up to #2 so it is what it is. All I know is that I'll be watching the game and cheering for Bama. If we win then we win and I can be humble about it. If we lose then we lose and I can still sit and talk football and get ready for next season.

At the end of the day I don't get caught up in all the bullcrap and trash talking because I still have a fiance, I still have a family, I still have a job, and I'm still breathing.

Don't let idiot fans get you all worked up.

Good post, and good for you.

But you see, the problem is, you are in the vast, VAST minority.

When you say, "Don't let the idiot fans get you all worked up," you are speaking about most of your fan base who portray the Bama persona.

The United States is a bit different in that we're very young as countries go and our "national" identity comes from the state we call home. Californians treasure their coastline and mountains and redwood forests. Iowans are batsh*t over corn. We (Louisianians) have a fairly rich history with the Acadian French and Spanish influence. What does Alabama have?

Answer: a history of being very good at football. There's not much else to define their identity.

It's all they got.

Your post started out so well phrased and went down hill from there. Hank Williams Sr and W.C. Handy disagree with your thoughts on Alabama. As does Hank Aaron,Jesse Owens and Joe Louis. Helen Keller and Harper Lee dont see it your way either (of course Hellen Keller didint see it at all). Marcedes Benz and NASA are fond of the state as well. As for your states "rich history with Acadian French and Spanish influence" Jr., Willie and the rest of the cast of "Swamp People" agree.

Of course you probably realize that Mardi Gras originated in Mobile, AL.

Honestly, I've ran across maybe a handful of people in my life that actually act like some people talk on here.

And you can have it. It's a party, nothing more.

And you're listing successful people, not contributions to culture.

You do have football.

I have lived in both Alabama and Louisiana (born in the latter), but I don't consider one State better than the other. Yes, Mardi Gras originated in Mobile. Louisiana has much more swampland, but Alabama has mountains and more caves. Both have Creole populations. Both have beautiful flora, especially in Mobile's Azalea Trail and New Orleans in the springtime. Both have individuals who are true friends who will go out of their way to help even fans from the other team. If someone is protecting my house or family, I could care less if they are LSU or Alabama. And many Bama and LSU fans share a certain dislike for Auburn, though I have met great Auburn people. A lot of people in Alabama dislike Finebaum, as do LSU people. And both have people who have clean speech, and both have those who don't. Both have those who respect others, and both have those who act like morons.

We need to be careful that we don't brand ourselves as cattle and leave respect and esteeming others better than ourselves behind.

saying they want to "restore the order" just shows even the players think they are entitled to anything and nobody should be able to touch them. you'd probably get a migraine the second you hit tuscaloosa from all the arrogance in the air. i would like us to not only beat them again, and beat the living dog shite out of them this time. a loss so demoralizing that saban quits, and sends bama back to the land of mediocrity. for you bama fans, that was only about 3-4 years go the last time you werent considered relevant. bama has one crystall ball, but hey, so does auburn. it takes dominant programs to win three in nine years. this aint the 70's anymore gumps. no matter what espn tells you.

Just so you know I RA'd that comment.

It's one thing to make jokes but when those jokes involve a disaster that left thousands of people homeless, turned their whole lives upside down, and killed some of their friends, family, and loved ones then that's another. It's absurd and it's ridiculous.

I witnessed the devastation first hand because I live in Tuscaloosa and for someone to make a joke about it really pisses me the f*ck off.
