we passed at will. Why would we have run the player most integral to our success

Also just for reference, LT did move the ball on Texas decently.

They only put up 14 points but left a bunch on the field with 2 FG misses and 2 4th down turnovers in (1 fairly deep into) Texas territory. LT did get totally shut down running the ball though.

Because you directly stated it.

No, that was exaggeration from other posters.

I'm sorry if you think, "some blitz/pressure packages" is the same as, "some exotic blitz packages".

I didn't watch the UT-Tech game, but was the defense stunting? Were they employing any technique besides simple bull-rushes? Any twists, slants? You don't have to blitz to increase pressure with 4. Did they blitz safeties? I wouldn't consider that an "exotic blitz package".

I just don't understand why so many people are getting overheated over the idea that maybe, MAYBE, Texas was holding some back on defense, just like maybe, MAYBE, LSU was holding some back on offense. At least Burrow suggested that LSU was indeed holding back plays, and his one rush seems to support that.

But then defending LSU and Tech require different schemes. I suspect that Texas won't even try to pressure Burrow like they would a typical drop back QB, they'll mostly try to contain him and take his options away. We'll probably see very few sacks of Burrow, more 1 yard runs, or tackles at the LOS - with Burrow maybe breaking one or two long ones.

You can stop here. You're just talking out of your arse if you didn't even watch the game you're commenting on.

your dumb take got exposed.

What if we see much more pressure from Texas this week than last? Would my take still be dumb?

You didn't watch this past weekend so how would you know?

Here's all I said:

I think both stats are equally meaningless for the game this coming Saturday.

Yeah, really reaching there and talking out of my arse. I stand by my fart gas, both stats are equally meaningless for this coming weekend. I really don't think I had to have watched the Tech game for that to be a valid take.

You're welcome to disagree and think that those two stats, or either one of them, is meaningful to the game Saturday.

There's a lot of confidence around here.

And rightly so. Texas D is built to defend B12 offenses, and otherwise inexperienced and smallish on the line. Only hope is to turn it into a B12 style shootout.

I predict 45-35 or such... LSU. Ehlinger will keep it interesting and Texas WRs are a definite bright spot this year.

the point of the OP discussing UT's lack of pressure against LA Tech.

Right...
quote:

Texas had 1 sack, 0 QB hurries against Louisiana Tech

STATS!

That says it all, Texas won't get any pressure on Burrow. Take it to the bank. Bookmark it. Bet the farm.

OR...

See it for what it is, one stat line from an opening game against a cupcake - just like Burrow, 1 rush for 2 yards, one stat line from an opening game against a cupcake.

Edit- and after watching a good bit of this game, LT was not just doing quick dink and dunk passes, play action mixed in with ~3 seconds of holding onto the ball before passing and very very little wins by the pass rushers.

i didnt watch. were they rushing 3 and dropping 8? which is what i would imagine.

I'm sorry if you don't believe that there are more designed run plays for Burrow this year than what we saw in week 1.

Imagine wanting to argue and “be right” so bad that you turn our discussion into this. NEVER have I said or even implied that I don’t think we have more runs for Burrow than what we saw Saturday.

All I'm fricking saying is that the Texas defense held back against Tech, and that we should expect a bit more pressure this week from Texas than what we saw against Tech. Why is that such a big fricking deal?

I mean it’s a fair assumption but it isn’t based on anything in reality.

I think y’all really need to look back and see what we did against LA Tech last year. The games were extremely similar.

This is completely true, but this year's LSU team should beat the crap out of last year's version. All anyone wants to talk about is offense, but the defense looked way better than last year post MIA.

I really hope the LSU defense doesn't let this thing turn in to a shootout. I know LSU has the new offense and it looked good against a weak opponent but if LSU wins this game its because of their defense.
