No, I'm not sure if the article is talking about that drill or another one.

ETA: From that video, I wouldn't have described it as running through an arm tackle, I mean he hit him head up pretty hard, just got pushed back. I was pretty much expecting a whiff like usual.
OK, I get it now. Yeah, if it is based off of the video clip from the stickied thread then that is a pretty bad dig on a player by the writer, James Moran. What I saw in no way equates to "running straight through an ... arm tackle." Unfortunately you miss the start of the drill as well in the clip.

The second clip has the same drill from a different angle and you get the start. Welter didn't do very good, but it certainly wasn't as bad as that writer made it sound.

EDIT: Huh, I could have sworn there was another video of the same drill from a different angle, but I don't see it in the post anymore.

Welter really is a team player. How high must Magee's confidence be after that? Great unselfishness by DJ.

Welter's biggest mistake was trying to tackle Magee up around the shoulders. If he goes that high on a big running back he is going to lose 9 times out of 10.

I wasn't expecting welter to really win the battle but his effort was poor for a middle linebacker imo

Looked about the same as in games last season when he was fortunate enough to find the ball carrier and then get run over or whiff. Unbelievable if he starts again.

I have to imagine that if he continues to play like he did last year, he won't be starting for long.

No reason to believe that he will be any better.

Average for Conference USA, maybe. Doesn't even sniff average in the SEC.

and if the d-line play is shaky early on from having thomas out, I don't thing it's going to bode well for DJ

We can hope that CJG comes along quickly. I don't think you'll be able to keep him off the field for long
