no surprise here

quote:

LSU wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. will participate in some drills at practice this week, but he will not play Saturday against Mississippi State, coach Ed Orgeron said.

"He's going to do some individual this week," Orgeron said Monday, "but he's not ready to play yet."

Marshall, a sophomore with 20 catches for 304 yards and six touchdowns during LSU's first four games, injured his right foot against Vanderbilt on Sept. 21. He had surgery the next day.

Marshall returned to practice last Monday in a limited capacity. He did not appear during LSU's open practice period the next two days. Then, Marshall warmed up in full pads before LSU played Florida.

Marshall did not play in LSU's win over the Gators. Senior Derrick Dillon started in his place. Dillon did not catch a pass. Instead, sophomore Ja'Marr Chase and junior Justin Jefferson received the majority of the targets.

Orgeron has previously said he hoped Marshall can return by LSU's game against Alabama on Nov. 9. The Tigers have two games and an open date before they play the Crimson Tide.

If he dressed out for Florida, no chance he could see action against Auburn? I understand we wouldn't need him that game necessarily, but I kind of feel he needs at least a little bit of live gameplay before bama.

Good. Need that baw ready for Auburn and Bama. Let’s see them try to defend that three-headed monster.

I am fine with him missing as much time as he needs to be 100%. We would do him and the team a disservice to have him play sooner and risk reinjury. Have to be extra careful with foot injuries.

This is what I said would happen. We need Marshall back for Alabama to have a third big target to go against them but it wasn't going to kill the offense if he missed a little time. LSU killed teams with just two guys, Landry and Beckham, in 2013. That's what they did to Florida Saturday night.

I'd like to get him a couple of catches against Auburn just to get him back in the flow.

I believe he will be dressed and ready for the Auburn game. If he gets any snaps, it will be very few and just to get his feet wet again.

He will be a full go for the Bama game, but I expect for O to hold that really tight to the coat leading up to the game. One of those "game time decisions", then we throw a deep post to him on the 1st play of the game.

Russillo mentioned something he had heard from Stanford Steve when they were on the sideline for one of Les' games (can't recall which one), where we had all the talent in the world but couldn't make it happen on offense, and Russillo was scratching his head why it wasn't working. Steve simply replied "too many 2 man routes". You can get by with that with talent like Juice and OBJ, but most anyone else it gets easier and easier when you realize you only have to cover 2 guys at all times.

We have great talent with the receivers, but they thing that's really making it work is forcing defenses to guard the entire field and that's creating huge openings for our guys to just find, sit, and catch.

We really need him to play vs Auburn. Do not want his first game back to be Bama

Are you suggesting a coach would do something besides be obvious? Do you think most people here have enough sense to get that? I'm not so sure

He’ll play if he’s ready vs Auburn. No question. Auburn is more important than bama

i'd be completely fine with him taking it easy for the next three weeks and returning vs BAMA (assuming he is very near 100% by then?).

I kind of see your logic here, but I'm honestly not seeing 2 SEC teams this year. Ohio State still has Wisconsin and Penn State (both at home), so they might get tripped up. But Clemson and Oklahoma pretty much have smooth sailing here on out. Those 3 teams win out, there's only 1 slot available.

O is not like Miles. He doesn't keep injuries a secret.

I think he could take a few live snaps against Auburn - I would not expect him to start or play 20+ snaps until Bama, honestly.

This is actually spot on in this context. They’re going to put up 1000 yards vs Bama — the only question in that game is can anyone get a defensive stop lol.

Meanwhile AU’s defense at full health may very well present more of a challenge than UF adjusting to early injuries. Just don’t see them scoring much (although I said the same thing going into the UF game).

Clemson could easily Clemson themselves to Wake Forest or South Carolina. Doubt it, but it could happen.

Oklahoma has Baylor and Oklahoma State and Big 12 title game. Also doubt it, but the chance isn't 0.

I think he also meant Auburn is more important because a loss at Bama wouldn't end our playoff hopes, but a loss at home to Auburn absolutely would.
