He took the LSU job so his wife and kids would be closer to her home

He took the LSU job because Diaz castrated him by taking away his play calling duties for next season, leaving him as a glorified clipboard holder with the "DC" title. He didn't leave Miami to be closer to home.

He literally said we were the ONLY school he would leave the Miami DC position for

C'mon, listen to yourself! People say stuff all the time just to appease others.

I'm retiring to spend more time with my family.

XXX is my dream school.

I promise I'll still love you in the morning.

That was a sound byte for a press conference, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t some truth behind it. He and his wife have deep ties here. If you think that had no impact on his interest in this job, then I don’t know what to tell you.

That said, I would still be worried if a program that wasn’t just getting started down a difficult road with the NCAA was after Baker. His family ties here are important, but I think UT’s situation is the main reason he will stay here.

I wouldn't blame him for taking a DC position. I would blame him for taking the DC position at Tennessee.

His wife wants to be in Louisiana near family. We'll see.

He was essentially demoted when Manny Diaz took away his play-calling duties as DC heading into the 2021 season. There was no real upward trajectory for him at Miami and he, understandably, wanted out. I suspect he and/or his reps contacted LSU about the (then) open DC job. LSU clearly said they were interested in him...but likely not as DC. Still, he probably saw it as an opportunity to get some degree of movement in his career as it is hard to go back "up" on the same staff once you have been moved down. So no, I don't buy his statement that LSU was the "only job he would have considered leaving Miami for". But I do think it was the best job for him to make a career move.

You always say flattering things about your new job in the opening press conference. And you don't want to disparage your old one so as not to burn bridges for future career moves.

I guess we will see how accurate the “LSU was the only job I would have left the U for” statement was.

He also stated his wife is from Mandeville and she was ecstatic about returning to the area.

The tweet actually says Brian Baker. I bet it's referring to this guy, and the reporter got his bios mixed up.
