I don't know if we can afford offering Ed. O enough money just to be a position coach since he is already making a decent amount for the Saints. I don't want LSU to pay him a def coordinator salary just to get him to come here as a specialist coach

lane is a good recruiter but O is better...much better, and a better DL coach. I don't even think Ed is that great of a DL coach....Lane just sucks that bad

O only wants to be dline coach. He would come here for that and apparently wants to.

IF we offer Coach O, I think he will be at LSU. The problem is going to be the timing in my opinion.

Sounds like a UT offer is waiting.

So we better get moving.

Totally agree with this. We've got a leg up on Tennessee because it's a given he'd prefer a job at LSU over Tenn, but I doubt he's going to sit around for a week hoping LSU will offer him when he's got a good job on his buddy Kiffin's staff awaiting his acceptance.

If that's true, and Miles passes, it will rank up there with the co-DC move, but I doubt it's true.

He has too much pride to accept the decrease in salary, and it's not like he is an LSU man.

I would think he basically teaches what the scheme calls for...he may do well under different leadership. And I like his Florida connections.

I can give up FL if the remaining DL would play up to their potential.

Exactly. I am not connected, so I don't really know how quickly a possible Chavis hire may happen. And I'm guessing they won't hire O without first hiring a new DC.

I think we've probably got about a week to get an offer to him. After the SEC title game, recruiting season is going to kick into high gear and UT is going to want an answer.

Based on all of this, I think unfortuanately it doesn't work out. Which really sucks.

I was once a big critic of O outside of recruiting, but his results with the Saints DL this year are highly underrated. Grant and Smith don't have the ability to be consistent pass rushers at their current size, and some have criticized O because the DL isn't swimming with sacks.

Still, it has been a huge difference how quickly the DL as a group is collapsing the pocket compared to last year. He has also gotten good play out of a couple of young 'ens in Ellis and Charleston.

He will undoubtedly be given more titles at Tennessee than we can give him here, and he definitely will be given more money, too.

He will have the same issues Dunbar did.
