Then caught their stride when it mattered and made it to Omaha. This team can do the same. And they will.

Hell LSU ourselves had a team that was ranked 11 out of 12 half way through SEC season and made it to Omaha.

These guys are going to develop and improve. Folks here apparently have forgotten that this process will take longer some seasons. I remember 2008 we were absolute dog shite, then we went on an awesome run and made it to Omaha.

I mean you can act like that’s the norm but it’s not. Not saying that it’s impossible but you saying that it will definitely happen shows your bias

Bruh I'm trying keep spirits up. It's obvious this team is in the shitter right now. But teams improve over a season.

Jay is eventually gonna decide who his dogs are and not worry about losing the guys who aren't performing. I believe he will end up riding with a lot of young guys by end of year and the team will fly.

Difference was we were leading most games by 5-6 runs and had epic collapses with bullpen.

This team is nothing like 2008. They look more like 2011.

His assessment was pretty accurate if you look at the similarities how they are playing. While UT did not win the national title on 2022, they lost just as much as LSU did from a very talented team. But let’s compare:

2022 Vols- 10 players drafted, 5 in the top 90 picks. Lost 13 total.
2023 LSU- 13 players drafted, 5 in the top 90 picks. Had 1,1 and 1,2 picks in the draft.

2023 Vols- through first 27 games, Vols 20-7, and 3-4 SEC.
2024 LSU- through 27 games, LSU 20-7, 2-5 SEC

2023 Vols- lost 4 consecutive games going into the Vandy Series and a midweek ‘L’ to Tennessee Tech. Vols were 5-10 in SEC play and only had 1 SEC series win prior to April 21st. April 21st was the turning point in the season and the Vols swept Vandy that weekend. Vols 15-4 to end the regular season.

2024 LSU- after having to replace all its starters except for White, they are still trying to find their way. LSU has enough talent on this team not to get hot at some point. JJ is a good coach, and will find the right lineup like Vitello did with his Vols. While it’s frustrating, it’s not time to panic just yet.

I understand that LSU baseball is elite historically dating back to 1984. And no one is comparing LSU success to UT success all time. This is just a comparisons of what both teams had to deal with after losing so much talent. But to think LSU has always been a power, is just wrong. Prior to Skip (1984), LSU had 0 college World Series and only 1 NCAA tournament appearances. What Skip did with LSU was nothing short of amazing and they have just continued it after him.

When Vitello took over the UT baseball program was one of the worst in the country, but they had more success than LSU in baseball prior to hiring Skip. Vitello will win a national title or 2, and they are one of the top teams now since his arrival. It took Skip his 8th season at LSU before he won his 1st national title, and his 3rd season to win SEC. Vitello is currently in his 4th year, and won the SEC in his 3rd season. Not saying Vitello will have same success as Skip, because frankly no one ever will, but he’s is on a similar pace and I do think he will win a natty before his 8th year at Tennessee. So with all that being said, it’s not so bad to be compared to the Tony Vitello Vols, as they are the only team in the SEC to have made it to Omaha 2 of the last 3 seasons. Good luck and look forward to the LSU and Vols series this year.

LSU success in baseball is 1984 to present. Y’all have had a great program for last 39 years, no disputing that. But did you know that Tennessee had more NCAA tournament appearances than LSU, and more Omaha trips than LSU prior to Skip?

Being compared to the Vitello Tennessee Vols isn’t that bad. It took Skip 3 years to win his 1st SEC title and 8th to win his 1st Natty. Vitello has won the SEC in his 3rd year, and at this rate I think he wins a title before his 8th season. Take the biases out and you will see that Tennessee is actually a top 10 team regularly now that Vitello is there. Skip took over a dead program at LSU, like Vitello took over at UT. UT was one of the worst teams in the SEC till Vitello showed up. I respect the hell out of Skip and LSU baseball, but no need to be on a high horse, because Vitello could turn out to be very good and set his own legacy.
