My first thought in the stands last night was Aggies committed targeting on Watkins with that late cheap shot.
Did commentators mention anything on TV about it? Was cheap and was helmet to helmet.

It was helmet to helmet, but the tackling defender kind of slung him into the other defenders helmet. The player who hit Watkins with his helmet really didn’t intend to hit him this way. It was a scary play, but I would not want them to call that on our guys.

Not really. It was helmet-to-helmet, but not because of the defender whose helmet hit his. Watkins was literally thrown into that guy's helmet, who was going lower to avoid Watkins head and neck area.

That wasn’t targeting. The defender slung him down and the other guy just happened to be there coming to help make the tackle. If he wasn’t there no one would have thought anything about it.

Yea I'm not sure how you can call that just because of how it went down. Unfortunate, but that kind of stuff is gonna happen

This call and the no call for defense offsides were head scratchers in the stadium. Granted the scoreboard operator gives you maybe one bad replay angle and that’s it. So it’s always hard to tell live.

One of the worst rules in football. Until it takes into account changing elevations of moving players and until it applies to offensive players leading with the head then it’s not a reliable penalty.
