Saw on the recruiting board where we were on a 6-5 safety recruit's radar.

Just wondering who was the tallest safety we've had. Some that were tall whom I remember were:

Chris Carrier - mid/late 80s (was also our deep snapper and seemed to always be the first one downfield in punt coverage)

Jeffrey Dale - early/mid 80s. (Had a great pick-6 vs OM in '84)

Robert DeRutte - late 70s (I recall him laying the wood to Buck Belue UGAs QB in '78). Sad to learn he passed away in 2018 at 58 yrs old.

The guy on the recruiting board is 6’.05” I was mistaken at first too. The OP edited the post but Kam Chancellor comes to mind at 6’4. Also about 6 years West Virginia had 6’6 safety.

He was like 6-1.

Carrier was listed at 6-5. Dale at 6-4, and I think DeRutte at 6-6 (but that's going off my old and occasionally suspect memory).

Surprised you didn’t mention your boy Craig Steltz. He’s probably around 6’2”.

Freaking animal. Atwater was one of the best college safeties I’ve seen.

Merton Hanks didn’t play at LSU but he was a 6’2 safety. If he had a normal neck, he would’ve been only 5’7.

Don't remember Watkins but he seems to be the tallest in recent history.

George Iloka was starting strong safety for the Bengals from 2013-2017 at 6'4 225, he's the tallest I can recall.

If only they would have let Trindon Holiday split his time at DE and safety

I remember watching Micheal Clayton 6'4" lay the wood in highschool and at LSU during kick coverage on special teams, and he would line up at deep safety during prevent defense. Im almost positive he would have been a first rounder at safety also. Stud
