Not only is it a QB award, it has become the best QB on the best team award.

I don't know why this opinion keeps getting regurgitated.

RG III won it on a 3-loss team. Tebow and Lamar Jackson won it on 4-loss teams. You think A&M was the best team when Manziel won it?

Since it’s inception, it’s usually been the best (most hyped?) player on the best team.

What the hell else do you think Billy Cannon was?

Game is currently very QB focused, so that’s what you’re going to get. Other than that, nothing has really changed with regard to this. It could certainly trend back toward RBs at some point, as it has sort of always gone back and forth between the two.

Can’t just accept it and move on. Happens to everyone.

That has been a complaint for at least 50 years, so ...

Actually the ‘70s and early ‘80s belonged to the running backs. A running back won it every year from 1972 (Johnny Rodgers was considered a WR/RB) to 1983. When Doug Flutie won in 1984, he was the first QB to win it since Pat Sullivan in 1971.

Quarterbacks started winning on a regular basis once offenses became more passing oriented in the 1990s. But I watched enough college football in the ‘70s and ‘80s and there were a lot of wishbone/veer/option type teams. Many coaches acted as if they were allergic to the forward pass. That’s why RBs dominated the Heisman in that era.

Not concerned at all. I actually think this is going to be a complete landslide from Joe when the vote tally is released. Dude is going to win by a huuuuuuge margin.

There is absolutely 0% chance Burrow doesn't win it.

Zero Percent

That being said, I have found it interesting that ESPN has been harping on the legitimacy of the award for the past week or so.

I don't know if they do that every year, but they had an entire 1 hour show after the awards show devoted to how the Heisman is tainted at this point.

All conveniently when an LSU player is the clear runaway winner.

I've never believed it, but it gives credence to the whole "ESPN hates LSU" narrative that many love around here.

Since someone finally asked instead of just assuming which everybody has been doing, I'll answer.

The whole point of this post and what my concern was, was whether or not this bad-mouthing of the quarterbacks in the week leading up to this moment was going to take away Joe Burrows chance of breaking the record for the most Heisman votes by percentage.

But all y'all heard was, MUH ESPN hates us, MUH Joe Burrows not going to win the award, etc.

So next time how about we all just try to have a reasonable discussion instead of acting like a bunch of four year olds?

That was my point. I wasn't sure whether or not this was normal and I thought it would take away the chance for a landslide, record-breaking win. I asked that question but of course nobody answered it.

I never for a second doubted that Joe Burrow would win it and nothing in my OP reflected that that doesn't stop everybody from assuming it did.

This shows people like you and the OP are just looking for stuff you think is a slight against LSU. They have been doing those 150 year specials all year. Itas Heisman week, so they did the one about the Heisman surprisingly this week. Heisman controversies are nothing new. If you think it some how takes away from Burrow or was somehow done because an LSU player is the runaway winner that's pretty pathetic on your part.

Are you sure? With what I just wrote in mind, go back and read my original post. Point to the spot where I said any of the things that people assumed I said.

I've noticed this problem living here in Louisiana. If you don't write in a very direct manner and throw in a ton of caveats people fill in the blanks and make all kinds of assumptions about your intentions and meanings instead of just taking the words exactly as they're written. They also don't seem to like to answer questions and prefer to denigrate people instead.

I simply asked if this rhetoric was normal or not because I don't usually watch these type of ceremonies, and if it wasn't normal, is there some concern that Joe isn't going to break the OJ Simpson record because of it. Because I didn't state that last part, everybody filled in the blank that I was concerned that Joe wasn't going to win the fricking Heisman, as if. Yet no where did I explicitly state or even imply that.

You’re asking if there is something to worry about due to an ESPN segment that is happening weeks after votes have been tallied. There’s nothing to worry about. Joes winning and who cares about anything else.

The word concern is literally in your frickin thread title

quote:

I'm starting to get a little concerned that they're trying to shape the narrative to influence the voters and buck the trend and vote for a guy like, let's say Chase young, a defensive end instead of just the best quarterback.

I mean look at this statement and tell me you weren’t asking if ESPN was trying to influence voters this year you dolt

But feel free to keep trying to convince everyone that they are crazy and you’re the right one

I think it is shitty for a voter to use his vote to make a point about the award instead of voting for the truly most outstanding player. Unfortunately I think some will use their vote to stir the debate, others simply to be a contrarian. So I understand your point.
