I don't ever watch the Heisman Awards or the talk leading up to it so I don't know if this is normal but I have this year and they all keep complaining that the Heisman is a quarterback award, that it's a joke, there's too many voters, too many voters that don't know what they're doing and that they need to start awarding the most 'outstanding player' not just the best quarterback.

Out of all the years for them to try to buck that trend, this is not the year to do it but the talk is worrisome. Obviously, it would be absolutely outrageous if they didn't give it to Joe Burrow since he's setting all kinds of records and against the best competition but is this kind of talk normal for the Heisman award? I'm starting to get a little concerned that they're trying to shape the narrative to influence the voters and buck the trend and vote for a guy like, let's say Chase young, a defensive end instead of just the best quarterback.

They just gave a ton of other Awards to Joe and he's in the college football playoff so I could see them trying to level it out a little bit.

They were successful doing this kind of thing with the "complete team" bulshit to get Ohio State at the #1 spot for a while.

I'm quite aware. That wasn't the question.

I’m concerned...that Germany might win the first world war.

The talking heads have been complaining there are too many voters all week, but they all also said Joe should win and deserves it.

Well they aren’t wrong. Joe doesn’t have anything to worry about because it’s his, but defensive players are at a disadvantage to win the heismen. Voters don’t weigh their performance the same as someone scoring a lot of points.

I get that but I'm not just talking about the talk today. They've been doing this for like a week. I know that some people vote early so it wouldn't have mattered but there's some other voters that wait as long as possible.

Stop putting your panties in a knot. Votes were sent in after championship games or earlier.

I completely agree and I've always thought that the general awards never go to the right players. I mean, the best player could be some division 3 guy for all we know but nobody really breaks it down properly because it's hard to compare across different levels of competition and different position groups.

Just look at how many of these so-called 'outstanding' players end up being a complete busts in the NFL when they have a level playing field.

I think they are keeping to their scripts and getting the attention they want. I don’t think anyone will be close to Joe tonight, but the chatter about it being a “quarterback “ award may get more traction in upcoming years. The original intent of the award has been lost, IMHO.

Never heard them say that.

Rece has actually said a couple of times this morning that the real drama is whether or not Joe will win with the highest percentage of first place votes ever.

There was nothing worrisome about their conversation.

So you didn't read the body of the text? The real question I had was whether or not this was normal talk. If it was, then no concern. If it wasn't, then there might be concern.
