Talent/Experience Comparison
Posted on 9/28/17 at 1:18 pm

Posted in a thread yesterday, but it was glossed over by most...
I thought it would be interesting to look at a) talent according to the recruiting sites vs. b) experience...for our starters, compared to a few teams that are pertinent to LSU's situation right now.
A few points of reference...
- I used a 4-3 scheme for defense...making the Buck a DE
- This is just starters using the depth chart from ourlads.com
- Recruiting ranking based on 24/7
- Year = 1-Freshman, 4-Senior
Yes, recruiting ranking ultimately dont matter in the end, but it is a good indication of overall team talent. and Yes, a RS Freshman is somewhat different than a TR Freshman
OFFENSE...
Takeways....
- Our oline is NOT that young and does NOT lack talent.
- Overall seniority is greater than both teams we've played, as well as Bama and Auburn. Thats surprising.
DEFENSE...
- Defense is not substantially younger than these other teams.
- Toliver not in the starting lineup hurts the talent number
Thoughts and observations?

People play the youth card just to justify our horrendous play. LSU' isn't the only team out there that plays a lot of freshman

It's amazing, you appear mature and objective in softball threads, yet a lunatic in football threads

how is what I just said not objective and true?
I understand we are young in spots but it shouldn't cause us to Lose to MSU by 30 and to almost lose to Cuse at home

How much is the prince paying you?

You are on here bashing O 24/7. It is almost like it is two different posters.
State is a game that got away from us for several different reasons. Syracuse was never going to beat us in that game, and it was made closer by playing Brennan. Danny was rolling when he was pulled.

This is about the most objective thing you can post. He literally took numbers, plugged them into a spreadsheet, and compared those numbers against other teams.

The starters are not the problem and they certainly don't make or break the team. I've said it before and I'll say it again, our football program has a lot of problems and a lot of it falls on O right now but our OL depth is undeniably horrendous. Why don't you compare Alabama's second string to our second string if you want a real comparison? Or how about compare their third string to our third string? You know that we don't stick 5 linemen out there all game, right?

But, this will be a short lived thread. The idiots don’t want to hear it so they will just ignore it.

most every college team has some youth issues. The coaches have to allow for that, just like injuries, suspensions, etc. It's part of the college game.
I just don't buy the youth excuse. We've got plenty of sophomores, juniors and seniors starting and getting PT. I mean, how many freshmen are starting for us now? 3 out of 22?
And please don't tell me sophomores are young. Not buying that at all.

Barring injury, you generally play the same 5 starting OL all game. LSU rotated Ingram and Charles to find out who looked better early, but this is the exception, not the norm. Depth on the OL really only comes into play when injuries happen.
The mental gymnastics some of you go through to justify our poor play is remarkable.

quote:Brennan did guide us to a touchdown his first series. It was the poor play of the defense that made that game closer than it should have been.

Finally hard evidence, no excuses.

People pointing out facts like we really aren't that young of a team is not bashing O. The youth and lack of talent excuses are bogus. Good coaching can correct or mask most of LSUs current problems. O might be able to pull it off and time will tell.

Lmao yeah man, we were this close to pulling it off. Just think if we didn’t drop that 30 point touchdown in the 4th

you have never played football before. It's a big deal when a team like Alabama can put in another 5* offensive tackle in the third quarter to keep their starter fresh with no talent dropoff. And when things like injuries happen or someone gets nicked, guess what? Depth matters. To act like our starting five are the only people on the field who matter is fricking asinine, and I'm the one playing mental gymnastics? Sure, guy who is actually sitting there and claiming that OL depth is irrelevant

Come on
They played neck and neck with us an more. We were extremely fortunate they dropped an easy wide open TD. Luckily our defense made a fantastic play first play and put us up.
It just as easy could have went the other way

That would not help their agenda
