LSU Athletics and the Tiger Athletic Foundation are excited to announce “The Oaks” – a new philanthropic giving society that will directly impact the experience of LSU student-athletes for generations to come. The Oaks becomes the flagship philanthropic initiative for TAF and represents a transformative shift in the fundraising priorities for TAF. The program will offer an enhanced level of stewardship for those who make major commitments to LSU athletics. “The Oaks will help us to raise the necessary funds to ensure the experience of our student-athletes at LSU remains second to none,” said LSU Athletic Director Scott Woodward. “This initiative will provide the essential resources and continued growth required to fully support the next generation of champions here at LSU.”

Great move, Scott is getting on top of this NIL stuff.

Membership in The Oaks requires a financial commitment of at least $25,000 or more over a five-year period. Donors can choose from three different funds to contribute to, all of which are critical for the success of LSU Athletics:

I don’t think this is NIL-related?

TAF Capital Programs Fund: The Capital Programs Fund enables the Tiger Athletic Foundation to fund capital building projects for LSU Athletics. This fund helps to support a vast majority of current projects while establishing funding for upcoming and future projects.

Athletic Director’s Excellence Fund: The Athletic Director’s Excellence Fund is designated to assist in the areas of greatest need and ensure LSU student-athletes continue to have every opportunity to compete for SEC and national titles.

Scholarship Endowment Fund: The Scholarship Endowment Fund provides the critical long-term support for LSU’s Athletics Scholarship program. Each dollar in the fund is invested, and the proceeds of the investment are utilized to offset the educational expenses of LSU’s student-athletes. LSU awards approximately 450 student-athlete scholarships annually. Scholarships typically include tuition, fees, housing, food and other costs of attendance.

Maybe I’m missing something.

Since when has anyone asked for money involving student athletes? It’s nil
Plus it being new also makes it seem nil

You could argue that almost everything TAF does “involves student athletes” in one way or another. The $25,000 commitment can go to three funds. One fund is for capital projects. One fund is for scholarships. The third sounds like it’s effectively a slush fund that the athletic department can tap as needed. None of them say anything about NIL.

Further, I’m fairly certain that TAF is legally barred from being an intermediary (in terms of payments) for NIL. If any of these funds were NIL-related they would likely have to be managed by a third party.

What? Universities are not just going to stop fundraising in the era of NIL.

Now, maybe there’s something NIL-related involved in the “exclusive events and experiences” that are offered with membership - e.g. the ability to attend exclusive autograph signing events or similar - but there’s nothing like that listed on the website under “benefits.”

The revised bill (the elimination of the NIL bill) will change this and allow TAF and boosters to directly pay athletes.

This sounds like a complete crock of shite by our overrated athletic director.

Meanwhile, Bama is out there signing five stars to NIL deals.

UGA has a similar foundation called the Magill Society. Matt Borman (TAF President) was at UGA prior to LSU so I'm assuming he's using their foundation as a blueprint for this new foundation.

quote:

Since arriving at UGA in February of 2017 to oversee athletic fundraising, Borman and his staff have seen the Magill Society for high-end Bulldog donors grow from 475 members to nearly 1,400 and signed pledges from $36 million to more than $160 million.

I’m saying it seems like it’s nil related with the way it’s vague and then at the same time about being exclusively towards the athlete.

Usually when it’s a bunch of words without saying much , it’s something to do with something that isn’t very clear with it’s rules , that fits nil to a t

I'm ok with this as long as TAF doesn't double my TAF fee again for season tickets.
