Nationally, TAMU vs LSU is a much bigger draw than Ark-LSU

When lsu has a veteran team that can dominate in the opening game like last year, sure... Bring on anybody.

However, with young or new players. It's very beneficial to have a few warm-up games. NCAA football is big money, and few things can kill your season like losing the opening game to an sec west rival.

Why risk it? To potentially get a slightly better tv time slot? The game will still be shown if played later in the year regardless.

No thanks.

You're in the minority, definitely the grand majority would rather play aTm over Arkansas last game of year. Arkansas just isn't a rival like they are.

I agree. The OP has a valid point regarding TV ratings. Perhaps it will suffer. But if LSU keeps doing its thing revenue won't be a problem. Just a personal preference but I'm looking forward to A&M/LSU being final regular season game.

I think that you make a really good point about being the prime game of the week. A&M to start the season would be tough although it certainly could work well for recruiting and exposure purposes assuming we win.

It pulled good numbers/ratings for 2 reasons: it is a high profile like LSU and second, it's the Friday after thanksgiving.

For starters, being on thanksgiving will be better. I like the fact that we don't have to watch some bullshite football on thanksgiving. For me personally, my two rotating thanksgivings are each < 2 from each stadium.

AssToMouth is more of a rival than arkansas will ever be.

Then you have football from Thursday-Monday. I mean, good football.

A&M gets more exposure than Arkansas. This will be a bigger game over the years when aTm gets settled (despite Arkansas being better now).

I've seen people say "well, it's proven that the Friday schedule gets better ratings than Thursday!". No, the past few years it's been that way only because Arkansas has been at its peak. Texas has been in a slump. Along with aTm. And of course, people just want to see LSU play.

Tl;dr version: I love the switch.

Not a fan of playing the Aggies in the first game of the season, not wanting to open the season with a conference game, period. Add to it is that Verge Ausberry was on the radio the other nite & indicated that the Auburn game will more than likely be moved up to take Ms.State's place, so that would be two hard conference games too early in the season. He said that LSU has "requested" the SEC to schedule the Aggie game last, no mention of either T.giving Day, Fri, or Sat.

Yeah well, its not like the A&M rivalry will be more competitive moving forward, at least Arkansas has been beating everyone but us and Bama lately, A&M is lucky if they go .500

That way, LSU will have TWO games every year where it is THE BIGGEST GAME of the weekend and can garner an exclusive weekend.

I hope you aren't referring to LSU/Arkansas as THE BIGGEST GAME of Thanksgiving weekend.

That is Rivalry Weekend. Auburn/Bama, Ohio St./Michigan, Florida/Florida St., Clemson/USCe, USCw/UCLA, UGA/GT, etc. are all that weekend and are all bigger games than LSU/Ark or LSU/A&M.

Ark - Mizzou will become the natural end of season rivalry thanksgiving weekend regardless of the weather. That sets up the PIGS to do battle with LSU as the 1st SEC game of the year, but not as the 1st overall game. That way, we still have the flexibility of a KickOff Classic game to start the year with a intra-conference power. Feasting on PIGs as the first SEC game also continues to build on this newer rivalry over the last 20 years since they joined the SEC.

Regardless of what happens, I DO NOT want to play aTm on Thanksgiving Day. To heck with that and being pigeon-holed into both Florida as a permanent opponent AND having a short week to play aTm every year.

Arkansas is likely looking at slumping some the next few years with the loss of Petrino. There aren't many like him in the business and he will be difficult to replace.

That aside, the Arkansas rivalry has never come close to what LSU and aTm had in the past. Trust me that LSU fans will soon be hating aTm just like the old days.

I would much rather have the Arky game moved up and aTm during Thanksgiving.

LSU used to play A&M every year when I went to LSU. Believe me, that game wasn't a big game for LSU at all. That game certainly wasn't a rival game. We used to open every season playing SWC teams. We used to play A&M, Rice and Baylor every season. In fact, those were our first three opponents. Those games were not big games at all. Our biggest game was Ole Miss. During Arkys first year in the SEC, they beat the crap out of us in freaking cold weather.

It was a big game and it would have been bigger had it not been the season opener and a conference rival. I hated aTm when we played them. You may be downplaying it because they were kicking our asses every year.
