You people need to stop freaking out. We gained more offensive yards in Mett's first start than in any game during the entire Lee/JJ era. Did you not remember Mett got knocked out of the game? With his inability to pick up blitzes, do YOU think it would have been a good idea to call plays that require time in the pocket?

Mett needs to practice picking up blitzes and throwing quicker. He will learn that with experience.

But the playcalling against NT was fine, plus the screen plays were working, so why stop doing it?

I do agree we need to go deep every now and then to keep the safeties back, hopefully this is where Landry will shine. We ran at will, and we did go deep later in the game....that's how this offense runs. LSU sets up the deep pass.

I think that you just have to accept that certain things are not going to change under Les. History just repeats itself.

As long as he keeps up the double digit win totals, strong recruiting classes, SEC and national powerhouse status, etc. I'm happy with those things not changing under Les.

People need to get used to the bubble screen. It forces the defense to defend from sideline to sideline, thus opening the running game. The bubble screen will be this team's version of the option.

Which is fine, as long as we can do the other things when needed.

To read what some of you are posting you all believe that the only way throw a deep pass is in a 4-5 WR set...

There is such a thing as going max protect with a TE and keeping a RB in to block against that pass rush and corner blitz and still have 3 WR on the field... You can have 2 deep routes and a shallow route with a RB floating out as a safety or 2 shallow crossing routes and a deep route or any combo you want... All I said was that the future of this offense can be predicted by the past.. That's not a player thing that's a coaching thing and playcalling thing.. The sideways offense has it's advantages but it's not going to be that easy during SEC play to start working on a vertical passing game when teams that actually have the ability to take away the sideways offense. Would I ever sit here and say I wouldn't take 7 yards on 1st down, absolutely not, but since you have no doubt that you can do that against NT work on the part of your game that hasn't been seen since 08.

Krags kicked out of the coaches box = gameplans created by 2 retard OL

see 1/9 for our future gameplans

Because being on the sideline means no input?

Because krags wasn't involved in 1/9?

I was hoping for better than this.
Besides... I don't care if they run Qb sneak every play if it racks up 500yds/game.

Yeah I mean the bottom line is there was no way that Miles was going to let Mett take another hit like that. He did not do a good job on the blitzes and what is the point of getting him hurt for North Texas? Play it conservative and get out of there with a w. So what if it is not "fun to watch"....

500 yards of offense says that Miles is smarter than all the morons complaining about the play calling.

Where the screens working? Answer that question first and then post your complaint about the play calling so you can look ignorant.

Agreed. But I'm not ready to pronounce that we can't do it. You don't necessarily have to use all the tools in your toolbox to change a light bulb. It doesn't mean they're not available when you have a bigger job though.

It was a mixed bag of a promising start, with a lot of sloppiness to correct and some things to work on.

agreed i always liked jimbo fishers bubble screens years ago. Davey and Reed were masters at it.

we did very good with horizontal stretches now let's work on vertical stretches this game also.

Neither am I, just anxious to see it happen. Been a long off season after the SECCG and NCG. Many people are hoping to see something new and promising.

The sideways pass DOES stretch the field. You can stretch a defense vertically AND horizontally. I

Absolutely. This keeps the CB's, LB's, and Safeties somewhat in check. Better teams can handle it better. Note the 318 net yds rushing. I have to believe this partly to be related to the lateral spread of the field.

Also IMHO LSU let the air out of the passing game for about two quarters to protect Mett from taking another helmet through the lungs. After that I think they methodically went to "this is step 1", "this is step 2", and so on...

The other point that I want to emphasize here is one posted on another thread regarding NCAA Team rushing and passing stats for this week. The top 29 teams (LSU #11) in rushing this week all won. The top three passing teams in the NCAA all LOST and below that there was no rhyme or reason to winning or losing on passing yards.

So strategy to run an effective offense and use clock looks to be a better Win producer than flashy percieved might.

The LSU coaching staff is just so overly concerned with fans like you being satisfied, they decided to go with their 500 of total offense, as opposed to you seeing 400 yards passing. They REFUSE to stretch the field, as you say, because that would be too easy. Forget the fact that North Texas had their safeties 20 yds deep to prevent the deep ball, and that LSU rushed for 300 yards as a result, that's irrelevant, because of what you wanted to see, as a fan..

So fans can't have a preference on what they would like to see? Odd.

I love sideline passes and screens. It gives us a tripple threat along with our run game and play action.
