I don't think Arkansas is out of the running for the NC, though I agree that they are essentially out of the running for the SEC. There is a difference.

If Arkansas were to beat LSU and move to either 1 or 2 (with Alabama staying ahead of LSU), Bama would win the head to head and go to the SECCG. However, Arkansas would still be 1 or 2 and playing in the NCG with the equivalent of a bye, regardless of what Alabama does in the SECCG.

Of course, it is possible that Arkansas would remain idle at no. 3 even with a win, but that is very very far from a certainty. Additionally, there is a chance OSU jumps Arkansas with a win over Oklahoma (effectively pushing Arkansas from a 2 to a 3 if it beats LSU), but I don't know about that either.

I don't even know if it's possible for anyone other than LSU to play in the SECCG from the west at this point. Unless Arkansas absolutely destroys LSU the BCS rankings would most likely look like this after an LSU loss on Friday:

1. Bama
2. LSU
3. Arky

Which would put LSU in the SECCG due to the head to head win over Bama.
what if LSU loses to Ark, and the SEC West team loses in the SECCG?

And Ok State loses to OU?

Irrelevant = any discussion of LSU losing to Arky.

Then again, they all have to sell ad spots so we shouldn't expect anything but speculative controversy.

Arky irrelevant as far as BCS title game goes, but IF they win, AND THEY WON"T, it could send LSU all the way down to the Cotton Bowl or Cap 1.

Bama - Ship
Arky - Sugar
LSU - fricked

BUT IT AINT HAPPENING!

This team knows how important this game is.

You won't see a more focused team in your life, they know what's on the line here.

In the event of a 3 way tie, the BCS standings would be the tiebreaker. So in the event that we do lose, which we wont, we have to hope that we dont drop below Bama in the standings. Which I dont think we will since we beat them head to head.

This is false.

There is a tie breaker between the top two teams.

Soooo you haven't been reading this thread? Sounds like you guys are screwed no matter what. But don't worry, you will lose friday so it won't be an issue of fairness. (but even if you win it doesn't matter and that is awesome)

Agreed. I don't think we would drop below arky. But it's a moot point anyway, we're going to beat them

Correction on my part, if there is a 3 way tie in the same division, the BCS rankings determine who will play in the SEC championship. At any rate, we would hope that we wouldnt drop pass number 2 if we were to lose.

LSU and bama both win this weekend. LSU loses close seccg to uga. Uga goes to sugar but LSU and bama are 1,2 respectively. Only two teams from one conference allowed in BCS. now what?

Special case. We get 3 teams in (LSU vs Bama, UGA in sugar)

I disagree.

They dug their own BCS grave with that pathetic out of conference schedule (sans aTm)....especially early in the season. Compare that with the gauntlet run by LSU early in the season...and it isnt even close.

still reads like you have it wrong

if you have a three way tie in the west one of the tiebreakers does consider the BCS rankings... but if the two teams ranked highest in the BCS standings are within 5 spots of each other it then reverts to a head to head

So as long as LSU and Bama are the top two ranked teams out of LSU, Bama, Arky... LSU will go by virtue of their head to head win over Bama

Arkansas is screwed at this point because they not only need to beat LSU to produce a tie at the top of teh SEC West, they also need Alabama to lose to Auburn (because they almost certainly can not pass Alabama or LSU in the cumulative BCS ranking)

You're right. The top 6 tiebreakers would have been exhaused if Arkansas wins. The 7th tiebreaker is the BCS. I think regardless, we have to hope not to fall below #2. Because after that 7th tiebreaker is used, head to head would determine who plays in the SECCG. And if we are number 2, we have a clear path to the BCSCG because there's no way that we fall again without playing.

stop saying it this way

it is misleading because it makes it sound like you think the team ranked the highest of the three in the BCS automatically goes to the SEC CCG

Which is not necessarily the case

Sorry if it does. But the point I'm making is for the BCSCG, which is more important. The number two spot is the safest spot because 1 & 2 plays in the BCSCG. So no matter if ARKY or Bama plays in the SECCG, if we're number two, we will be playing in New Orleans. So it is in our best interest if we were to lose, hope that it would be a close game and we would only drop 1 spot. I think it's all irrelevent anyway because we are going to handle the Hogs.

barring a bama loss to auburn your scenario is not possible

and ok state would still be a factor for teh BCS NCG if they beat OU (and esp if Va Tech loses in one of the next two weeks)

we dont get screwed by the bcs per say. we have always been screwed in tbe human polls. which affects the bcs. we wohldnt have stayed 3 with a loss to bama. we would have had to climb our way back up and could be in arkansas situation now.
