Why does the rule need to change? I have never seen a single complaint on this board about this rule until a rare game that we lost because of the rule. That is not a reason to change a rule. This isn’t little league. A catcher should have the ability to complete the out.

I didn’t even read your post. Just wanted to be the 100th downvote.

Think about it like this. You have an 0-2 count and no one on base. A wild pitch is thrown. If you simply swing at the wild pitch with no intention of hitting it, you can just run to first base. Meanwhile, if that same thing happens and you don’t swing, you have to stay put, you just get a ball.

This is rediculious. No batter in the game of baseball is going to strike out on purpose. The batter has no idea if the catcher is going to catch the ball or not.

I've always thought the rule was silly. The out is completely when the batter swings and missing for strike 3.

It’s just how the game is. Why does a runner have to tag on a caught fly ball before he can advance, when he can steal a base at any other time? Why does a run not score if it crosses home plate before the 3rd out if it’s a force but not a tagged out? It’s just the rules they came up with and they are just fine the way they are.

again, most other major sports tweak their rules every year to make the game better.

Baseball was invented almost 200 years ago. I think they could afford to modify a few rules to make the game more entertaining.

Or they could keep it as is and watch the popularity of the game continue to decline.

Yes but when you think about it logically it’s absurd. I’m not saying that the batter should just be called out, but there needs to be a middle ground.

No its not. That has been the rule at every level except Tball. Nobody needs to change the rules because it worked against you today. Tomorrow it will be your friend...

"Changing the rule" is nothing but millenial victim entitlement logic.

So you think people aren’t watching baseball because of this particular rule?

I ask again. WHY does this rule need to change?

Just because non baseball people don’t like the rule?

But why should you have to block the ball if the guy swings and misses?

Because the defense didn’t finish what they started. What the defense does matters, like when a batter hits a homer, but the outfielder robs it. Why shouldn’t it just be a home run since he technically hit it over the fence? That said, robs are about as rare as reaching on a strikeout so who really cares

people aren’t watching baseball because it’s far too slow with too little action.

And there are a bunch of rules i’d change in baseball, including this one, which i’ve always thought was silly. if you swing and miss for a third strike, you’re out. Simple as that.

Why is a foul only a strike if you don't already have two strikes? The entire sport of baseball is ridiculous!

When I was 15, in a USSSA tourney, I struck out 4 people in one inning. Pitched throughout high school and it was the only time it ever happened
