As soon as we beat Gumpland, as is the case with the Longhorns, the media will be saying Bama is down this year so it wasn't as quality of a win as we thought

They arent even ranked. And our 2 great wins are at home.
this has been explained and debated thoroughly.

All that matters is, that they were a top 10 team at the time we played. It just adds to our strength of schedule...Do you not understand that?

hypothetical:
We play the no. 1 team the first game of the season, and we win.
That other team goes on to an 0-12 record.
Do we still claim a win over a no. 1 team?

At the time top it was a high quality win. LSU should not be penalized for what happened to UTk AFTER the game was played - as in insurmountable injuries.

they were ranked in the top 10 when we beat them so,,,,,,
It's not our fault we wrecked their season.

Hypothetical:
That other team goes on to face a ranked team the rest of their schedule, due to other teams losing. So now they’re 0-12 all against ranked teams.
Do we still claim the win over a then ranked #1?

quote:no. I think it's far more rational to claim that based on where a team ends up.

Let's flip it:
Say we beat an unranked team the first game of the year. That team goes on to an 11-1 record, and is ranked in the top 5 at year end.
We should be able to claim we beat a top 5 team, because that's what their body of work tell us. Not where they were before the season even started.

Dude, all we can do is play the schedule we’re given. We played 3 top 10 teams at the time we played them and we won. That doesn’t change when the schedule comes out before the year and talk about every teams SOS.

Idk man, that’s tough to go by. It could be another UCF type school that plays phenomenal in their little conference. Play a few low ranked teams, eek their way into a top 5 while the big boys are beating each other up. Knowing damn well they’re not a top 5

I realize you're trying to argue around it, but it's ok to admit it's a top 5 win if we play USC the first game of the year, and beat them soundly, and they're unranked, but then USC goes on to an 11-1 record and dominates the PAC-12 and wins their championship game and ends up ranked in the top 5.
We'd be touting that win as a top 5 win (and rightfully so, because that team ended the season in the top 5). It doesn't matter where they are when we play them because all the data points aren't in.
It matters where they end up.
That's why elections aren't decided when only half the precincts are counted.

quote:Sure, but Cincy is a top 10 team and Wisconsin is top 4 if they beat Ohio St, so i'm not sure that logic really works.
That theory is bull shite though. Texas is top 15 with a win versus us.
Oh, and also, they didn't beat us so there's that too.

You ever think that LSU beating them after gearing up all offseason for the game maybe put them in a tailspin? If they beat LSU their season may have gone a little different otherwise.

We didn't just beat Texas. We broke their will. Shouldn't we get credit for that?

Context eludes the OP. At the time the game was played, both teams were Top 10. LSU won, beating a Top 10 team in their home stadium.
