It's a safe hire

it's "safe" in that he's only a TE coach and can't do damage. i don't see what he brings to LSU

I'm not impressed with the hire if it comes to pass. We would be better served by having a strong recruiting presence in E Texas even at the expense of a great position coach. TE coaches are a waste of a staff slot, so they better be able to recruit!

Or...you hire a top notch QB coach, who may not be the strongest recruiter b/c it is so crucial to your team.

In Ensminger we would get a below average recruiter and an average at best position coach.

Ugghhh

i fricking hope we don't pay him this

so why was he coaching QB's last season at the high school level, its because he got fired. Did anyone else offer him a job last year?

Well he has experience and a lot of it.
Could be helpful with QBs (I don't know who all he has coached to gauge their talent level or success).
He had some recruiting success at Auburn.

When Tuberville was let go so was his entire staff. They cleaned house at Auburn.
He still lived in the Auburn area and was helping coach at the local high school.
Tubervilles entire staff was just waiting for Tuberville to be hired somewbere else. Rumor was Tuberville was going to Miami after this year. Randy Shannon ended up having a good year and that didnt pan out. Tuberville got the job at Texas Tech. Im not sure if part of the hiring at Texas Tech didnt include him not being able to clean house and bring in all his old coaches.

Yeah, but who else is there? It's not like there's an extensive list of guys available is there?

-Would you rather hire a guy who has never coached TEs that can recruit?
-Larry Scott supposedly bombed his interview.
-Derek Lewis would have been a great hire but it doesn't look like he interviewed and we can't really know why (maybe he wasn't interested?).

At least he brings experience and has some recruiting success.

eta: I'm not thrilled with the hire either. But I don't think it is dreadful.

I have never be a fan of "journey man" coaching types...Amedee, Ensminger, Crowton types.

Never have and never will.

Things do happen that are out of coaches control, but coaches who aren't moving upwardly and bounce around every 2-3 years typically aren't very good.

Bobby Petrino bounces around a lot.
Hell Saban has bounced around a lot.

*I'm in no way placing Ensminger in that category.

Jeebus Ranters can you stick a tampon in it?

Barry Badrinath at least had the smarts to ask the Aurburn fans what they thought about the (potential) hire.

SEC Rant

Some quotes:

quote:

Honestly, just be glad he isn't going to be the QB coach.

quote:

auburn fans are gonna blast the guy, but he's not a bad coach... he was just put in two terrible positions (2003 and 2008). He's a pretty good recruiter.

quote:

he's gonna be a TEs coach... it's not like he'll be recruiting coordinator and OC... he's a good hire for the position, IMO. Plus he knows louisiana.

quote:

He is well respected in AL schools....good recruiter.

quote:

I really can't complain about the play of our TEs during his time at AU.

You know the Rant is bad when the Barners make more sense than anything printed here.

I've got a feeling there is gonna be some fighting this year between Gonzo/Crowton and this guy if he's hired...Three different opinoins on how to run a offense and one guy getting to call the plays...too many big ego's and too many people competeing for the OC job..

its why we should have just fired crowton instead of trying to hire a staff of guys to help prop him up for his short comings

I think Miles has these guys to "help" Crowton scheme for games...

Even stud has OC experience. Although I don't want this guy scheming shite on our team or touching our QBs while Crowton is in the booth.

this wasn't a done deal as of last night. Ensminger is being considered along with one other candidate out of the 5 interviewees. Is there word that this is official?
