re: Starting to think this football season could be a big letdown

As long as our 15 players who were out for the spring game, and for that matter everyone else, is healthy to start the season, the Qb play will be fine. With the O-Line we have, Ford and Ware are going to each carry for about 6,078 yards against Oregon.
Someone mentioned earlier that we lost leaders on defense. Absolutely true, but that happens every year. I still think losing Shep will be the toughest hit we'll have to take this year on D, because he really was a special leader. We've got seniors in the secondary that will step up though, don't kid yourself about that. Shep was a good linebacker, no doubt about it, but his leadership and intelligence is what's made his NFL stock rise, and believe me, the other players that were around him on the D were taking notes for this year*.

If this had been a real game, many would have played....

He could have an identical year to what we witnessed in 2010. He could have an identical year to what we witnessed in 2009.
This is true. And this is common sense. We should expect JJ to play what he is. While his personal 2009 stats weren't the travesty that his personal 2010 stats were, our passing offense in 2009 (97th nationally) wasn't much better than our passing offense in 2010 (107th nationally). Sort of like a less stinky fart.

He could explode in 2011.
Here's where you are wrong. It is not common sense that Jefferson could explode. Common sense is that a QB with two consistently subpar seasons will at best improve to mediocre. I'm not saying it won't happen--it certainly could. But it is not common sense to expect it to happen.

Where is the logic in asserting that he will have a miserable failure of a season next year while denying the other two possibilities?
The logic is that he has had two miserable failings of seasons in a row and looks to still suck based on what we have seen of him this spring. No one is denying the possibility he might improve, but it's also possible that I'll get a raise today while goofing off on TD.com. Possible? Yeah. Likely? Nah.
Even those of us who are in the camp that wants to see JJ benched (or at least give Mettenberger an honest shot at the job) want nothing more than the ideal of JJ depicted in Miles' press conferences to emerge. We'd love nothing more than an effective, dual-threat QB who makes our passing game a real threat and lets us use the talent we have at WR and TE. shite, we'd just like him to be a top 40 QB. We all want that. But we've seen this movie twice before. It's like watching "Freddy Got Fingered" twice and then expecting it to be funny the third time. It's foolish to think it will.

in 2006 we lost FOUR...FOUR first round NFL draft picks...how did 2007 turn out?

Bet you would'nt say that in front of nic saban. I beleive he would call you a negasayer or the sky is falling type of fan. Saban would never allow this mindset that we might fail.As much as LSU nation hates Saban, he has a mindset that says defeat is not an option.I sure Miles thinks the same way.

We play a bitch schedule. So what? We do that every year.
Absolutely.

Look at the offensive line. Auburn won it all last year because of the offensive line. They opened the holes for scam newton to run and pass through. If I not mistaken Alabama had mostly all senior offensive lineman when they won the previous year. This is lsu's most veteran o line in quite some time. Aside from left tackle I think we will be very solid up front. If Jefferson makes only slight improvement we will be fine next season!

Im loving the great attitude before the season starts. Dont melt down so quick from the spring game. It is the most vanilla game plan with no blitzing. Its not supposed to show people much...we will be fine we just need a game manager at QB and i think JJ will be adequate at that

Starting to think this football season could be a big letdown
Hey Kid:
I've been saying the same thing about LSU football, starting in May, since about 1972. Sometimes it is, and sometimes it is not.....don't worry about it....they are still your (our) Tigers, and we will love them till the day we die........
That being said, I think you are worrying too much for this season...I'm thinking the Tigers are going to make a serious run this season.

Pretty sure 11-2 with another trip to the Cotton Bowl would be a big letdown this year.

Yeah, preseason #1's are really gunning for the Cotton Bowl.

Season hasn't even started yet and we got people being negative. I may be pessimistic. I may be apathetic. I may be cynical. But I at least wait for them to screw up to be mad.

We MUST beat Oregon if we have any hope for an NC. Miles is hard headed and will start JJ. Too much pressure for the man-child. He will implode - sad to say.
Another year - another non-BCS bowl. After this season, it will make 20 straight BCS bowl opportunities squandered involving 40 teams. The Tigers will be MIA once again. Expect more of the same for 2011.
