You're going pretty hard after Stanfield considering the way some others performed. It's not like anyone else was tearing the cover off of the ball in Omaha. There were people wanting Jones benched before the 2nd Arky game.

Baseball gets harder in college the longer you play. Whooda thunk it?

Makes sense why Larson was leaving

He's good but outfield is stacked with Stanfield, Curiel and Brown

I can’t see Stanfield yielding CF to Curiel, right? No chance that makes the OF better defensively

Or maybe Stanfield was playing a little over his head early in the season just like Braswell did for 6 weeks last year. Just because Stanfield is a nice guy doesn’t make him better at baseball than he is. He wasn’t drafted for a reason. Glad to have him back but this board bloviates about mid players so much if they’re likable people, yet at the same time shite all over some of our better players (Jared Jones) if they’re in a slump. It’s honestly amazing to watch.

Curiel is the better OF. That wasn't 100% going into the season, but now that you know Curiel was basically a pro that came to college and has a season under his belt, no reason to not make the switch.

By every offensive metric but homers and rbi, Stanfield is a better hitter than Hernandez. You're shitting on a guy who had the 5th highest OBP on the team from the 9 hole.

This could be another situation similar to Brasswell. Stanfield hit .298 this year which was better than his last two years at Auburn. If someone just steps up and can be a better hitter, average and home run wise, the outfield position is a lot more forgiving as far as someone’s defensive impact. I think it’s completely feasible if Jay can have someone who is a bigger impact of a bat in the lineup, he will trade that for defense in the outfield. A Lesser defensive player at 3rd base would be exposed a bit more and would be more impactful with regards to wins and losses. This is the main reason Brasswell continues to play at 3b. His defense was just that much better.

Way to go out on a limb to say that our starting CF that hit almost .300 in the 9 hole was a key piece to the championship

Did you read this board at all during the back part of the season? There were more than a few people trying to get him out of the lineup.

They were trying to do that to Jones until the Arky game.

Honestly I don't know.

Isn't Jake supposed to be the fastest guy on the team?

At this point I'm just going to trust Jay and be super happy they all came back

This time last year I would have been shocked to hear we'd win it all and Pearson wasn't starting in the OF

This is just so fricking stupid. He was a take for Jay and Co. but Forever, the poster on TD, says he's not all that good.

He was also Freshman All-SEC, IIRC. You won't find 50+ kids every year in Louisiana that are that good.

Fact.
Some people on this site are fricking retarded.

Him and his family seem to really have enjoyed his time here. I believe it was his parents that said in an interview that they plan on coming back to watch games even after Chris leaves. Thought that was pretty cool.

Def provided some stability with his speed and glove in CF. Yes, the offensive struggled happened.. But, for the 9 hole, I’m not that worried about it. He was good at turning the lineup over for most of the year.

It’s a great returning piece, especially if curiel isn’t ready to make the jump to CF.

Stanfield was gone if drafted.

Stanfield improved his So year at Auburn and again this year. “Over his head?” C’mon man.

When others were struggling he was coming through. He’s a big reason we got a top 8 seed.

I suspect he makes another small jump next year. The players call him a leader and he plays his role well.

Exactly the type of player you need to win championships.

Stanny is something like .987 CAREER fielding %

It doesn’t get much better than that for a center fielder
