I always cheer when a good pitcher on the other team runs out of gas.

It wouldve been a mistake if they had lost. But snce they won, it looks classy, which it was. But it needs to stop, especially during post season. We need that packed house to be as intimidating as possible until the result is in hand.

I cheered so hard when Yeldon made that game-winning catch/run in the last minute in TS because it was such an outstanding effort. Actually, I didn't because I left at halfime.

Golf claps for the other guys in baseball is OK. Standing O's...not so much.

I was fine with the one stony brook got, because it was after LSU got eliminated.

This was just stupid today though, stop trying to weaken homefield advantage.

The thing that makes me mad is that earlier this year, during the Miss St series, the tv announcers said that in Stark Vegas they cheer for the opposing team making good plays, but "not in Baton Rouge".

I mean frick, LSU fans cheer for the opposing pitcher when we look like we're definitely going to lose, and we don't even get credit for it. The box cheers their asses off for good plays from the opposing team in any situation, and the national tv audience still thinks we're somehow trashier than Moo State? frick that...

It's called sportsmanship, but douche bags don't get it. Get it.

I went to the game and clapped when their started was taken out of the game, but it wasn't to applaud him as it was that their started was gone. I think alot of the clapping was for that reason.

Yes, cheering for the other team is gay.

I find that we as LSU baseball fans like to pat ourselves on the back about what great fans we are at times. I think it's more about that than genuine sportsmanship for many.

Just my take.

frick this.

I grew up going to A&M games because my dad went there. Their fans insist that they don't boo, they hiss. Which is the most stupid fricking thing I have ever heard. Just trying to pat yourselves on the back for showing good sportsmanship.

I am not there to support dipshit small school pitcher. I am there to make your team feel unwelcome in our fricking house. I want to win god dammit.

On the other hand, I was pissed about the Stony Brook loss but now that I have had time to get over it, I think it's cool that fans who may not ever come back to Baton Rouge probably had a hell of a time and left not thinking we were fricksticks.

Is this another one of those threads filled with LSU 'fans' who didn't attend the baseball game criticizing LSU FANS who actually went to the game??

Honest question: how long has this been going on? The first time I remember was when UNC Wilmington took us to the brink, played awesome, diving catches in outfield, etc. They lost but some of our fans who were there witnessing the effort gave them a lap to shake hands, say nice game (and thanks for losing - ha ha). I call that showing class.

Giving a standing ovation to the opposing pitcher who has given up 9 hits (albeit half of those in-field nubbers) in 6 innings seems like trying too hard to be cool, even if it is the school down the road, some of our players are friends with the guy, etc.

The "victory lap" isn't a "hey we love you now" thing it is merely getting in the back of the line behind our team after the game to shake hands with sportsmanship. No problem with that. IF people at the stadium want to do it I got no problem.

You know why I clapped when he left? Because he was beating us and now he's done. The bullpen guy was coming in. This was LSU's chance to jump on them. Yeah he did great but I was cheering for this team to take it to the next pitcher because we did what we want to with a good ace, survived him.

The kid battled the home team and national seed to a draw into the 7th. A home team who had just finished knocking the cover off the ball in the SEC tournament. A home team that was far superior in talent.

What's the big fricking deal if those at the game want to clap? More bitching over nothing is all I see.

Rantards don't understand baseball etiquette. You give opposing pitchers an ovation for a strong performance. And that kid yesterday deserved it. And guess what idiots, the same thing is gonna happen next time too.

The St. Louis cardinals have the best fans in baseball. I see them cheering for great defensive plays by the opposition all the time.

Do you think they would cheer for a gutsy outing by an opposing pitcher while losing in the 7th inning of a playoff game?

frick no. They know their place.

Actually, I do believe the pitcher would get an ovation in the situation you just described. Just like what happened yesterday.
