In these "good ol' days" that we refer to was a time when only the Big games got a TV nod; when you either had to go to a bar or have Tigervision to watch (which the quality was much like those tube TV's near the concession stands); people bought tickets and went to the game usually because that was the ONLY place to actually see the game. If not, you listened to it on the radio.
Now, not only is it televised, it can literally be watched on your phone. The access / convenience is why people aren't going or staying.
I say all that, but I stay till the end 95% of the time.

If you were a kid when LSU started singing the alma mater post game, then you're still a kid. That wasn't something that was always done.

This, in a nutshell, is a huge factor. People seem to forget the impact of not being able to watch a game unless you saw it live. Tiger Stadium has its reputation for a reason, but people are kidding themselves if they think fans wouldn't have been doing the same thing if they had satellites, phones, small portable generators, etc. back in the 70's, 80's and most of the 90's. Being able to sit outside the stadium and flip thru any number of games while eating and drinking hassle free, or better yet, doing it in the AC at home, would have had the same appeal.

I'd rather tailgate than go to the games now. The Red Hat is awful, the in-stadium understanding of what is going on is awful, the lack of wifi/coverage is awful, and the food/drink is crappy and no alcohol available.
Atmosphere is a huge selling point for going to the stadium; however, the college game has still not made the adjustment to have crap we actually care about going on while the Red Hat is standing on the field (unlike the NFL). So a large chunk of the time, the fans are just standing there. Why not put on another game during the Red Hat times? Why not put wifi in the stadium so we can see results from other games?

The LSU Athletic Department has put the quality of the Tiger Stadium experience way down on its list of priorities. Once it sells it's season tickets, those patrons fall off the radar screen. Their money is pretty much in the bank. Putting the only quality OOC game in Houston or Dallas or Atlanta is an opportunity for additional bucks--why give the season ticket holders that treat in exchange for no incremental revenue? Parking? It's not a way to make the experience of coming to Tiger Stadium easier. It's a way to squeeze $100 a game out of 25 or 30 thousand suckers. The stadium itself? Lovely facade, and some fancy, pricey suites. But the East Lower concession area is like being in some old municipal facility that hasn't been cleaned, much less upgraded, in over 50 years.
It's not just that the AD assumes we will all show up anyway. It's that frankly, my dear, they don't give a damn.

This is a huge factor. People know they can watch it somewhere else.
The guys that tailgate next to us don't even go to the game anymore. They watch it at their tailgate in comfort.

This goes for the South End Zone too. I even sent an email to Alleva a few years ago pointing out how a little effort in improving this would help the experience tremendously. Literally nothing has been done in 50 years. It's a joke.

Hell in the South EZ the paper towels must leave with the fans at halftime in the bathrooms.
Hell first game we didn't even have a trash can.
I have been to many HS stadiums that are by far nicer than TS than the concourse area under TS. LSU spends no money on the fans at all there.

a lot of people don't think that its worth getting out there hours early, drinking for hours in the heat and humidity, going into the game, being packed like sardines, then sitting in traffic for an hour plus to get home.
especially with the onset of sports in HD in the last couple of decades. know several season ticket holders who give away/sell their tickets and watch the games at home in the AC

This would be a persuasive argument if the stadium weren't practically full at the start of the game. It's the departures after the 2nd quarter that can't be explained away with reasons why folks might choose to stay home in the first place.

Not sure why we have threads about this every week. It's been happening for several years and it isn't changing anytime soon. Go and enjoy the game the way you see fit and stop bitching about it folks .

Need to allow in/outs. People could leave, go take a crap, down a few beers, then come back in. What's harm in that? If they don't want to see 2nd half, give the tickets to someone else to go in. LSU already got their $. May sell more overpriced drinks/food with 2nd team fans.

Gotta love the South End Zone. Huge bottleneck at the top. Crowded as hell and some of the purest, truest diehard fans of all times. Sat next to a guy wearing a purple football helmet one year. He was cool as shite! Nothing like SEZ on a Saturday night! My tickets have since moved elsewhere but I miss the SEZ!

I use the South End Zone as my reference for stadiums that are dumps. As in, the right field concessions area of Fenway Park reminded me of the South End Zone at Tiger Stadium.
I had season tickets in the South End Zone and I gave them up. A big part of the reason was the cramped mobility in that area of the stadium.

I guess that stadium expansion wasn't really necessary.

The band has sung the alma mater for a long, long time. The football team singing started with Miles.

When I disagree with the spelling I agree with the sentiment.
For Tiger Stadium to be rocking LSU fans truly need to fear a loss.
