Try not to cry thinking about how Spurrier wanted to coach at LSU.

He would neever come here. I think he detests is especially after we made him quit. Then there’s 1997.

We don’t have enough golf courses to fulfill his fix.

The main reason would be that we passed him over as HC. Huge fricking mistake.

Meh his Qbs weren't that great at South Carolina. The 90's he was a different man.

South Carolina went 11-2 - 3 years in a row....I doubt that will ever happen again ever.. - To me his coaching job at Carolina was better than any years at UF

A guy like Spurrier believes Orgeron isn't worthy of breathing the same air he does.

Try to remember how unproven Spurrier was when he expressed this desire.

Taking bold chances can end up with Steve Spurrier or Curley Hallman coaching your football team..

Oh please no. May as well have Kiffin hanging around to give advice too. Can you think of any issues with those personalities.

Regardless, Over time, Spurrier got way more mellow. IMO, a lot of his QB success came at FL because he expected and demanded perfection. Early on, he didn't wait until practice to correct/address gametime mistakes.

Umm...doesn't look like he'd want to come to LSU regardless.

From the article:

quote:

“I don’t want to be a head coach. There’s too much involved in being a head coach. But if a high school, or a junior high…well, I guess they don’t have junior high’s any more, but just a high school somewhere to coach quarterbacks and pitch the ball around. That might be something that I might want to do again.”

quote:

“Major college ball, these guys work 11 months out of the year. It is so different than it was back in the 90’s, and even into the 2000’s as far as the total number of hours go. I wouldn’t look forward to that.”

Sounds like he's just interested in coaching high school as like a community service kind of thing.

I met him this past weekend at the Duke vs Pitt game... Surprisingly nice guy to talk to, although very brief.

he actually did well at So. Carolina, which is a very hard place to build a program. Hell, he had 3 straight 11-2 seasons, and never had a losing season there.

And I'd argue that Spurrier was ahead of his time at Florida, and now many college offenses have come around to his philosophy - fun 'n gun, throw it all around the field, wide open offense.

why hate him? The guy was brash, but honest. You never got "coach-speak" from Spurrier, which I found refreshing. The guy was entertaining, both on the field and off it.
