Jobert took the 1st pitch for a strike (0-1). 2nd pitch was Jobert swinging at a pitch low and inside (0-2), 3rd pitch was ball (1-2), 3rd pitch was thrown past Jobert for the punchout. Was also Jobert's 2nd (or 3) strikeouts

10-4. Must have been thinking about Jobert's at bat in the 9th. But if anything furthers my point because he didn't get down 3-0 to Jobert.

I'm not blaming the loss on the decision. I'm simply thanking the coach for this dumb move

Best game I've ever seen outside of walk-off championships.

Best by far other than those but I tell you what. I was on pins and needles all night

I'll also say this, I was one who gave Hurd a hard time early but I will say, he has been pitching his arse off

My comment about the lab was in reference to a few other posters that implied Walter made the pitching change decisions based on some analytics from the pitching lab.

I know I was agreeing with you. When a team is heavy analytics and the media talks about non stop most fans start bashing it if the team doesn’t win because most people don’t under basic probability. But again in this case I’m pretty sure the “lab” is about developing pitchers. Using data and technology to analyze a pitcher and find ways he can improve.

As far as analytics driving the coaches decisions, those criticizing it are using 20/20 hindsight (always the case btw) or what Annie Duke calls resulting. It’s easy to judge a coaches moves after the fact and when you have no stake in the matter. We’ll never know if Lowder would have cruised thru one more inning or if he gets hit or gives up a couple of walks. The first kid after gave up a walk and sacrifice. Then Massey stuck out Crews IBB to White and fly out to Morgan the end the inning. He went 3 up 3 down the next 2 innings before giving up a solid hit to Crews. So the idea that “analytics” cost them is absurd.

After reading through this thread...

How does anyone call out Lowder for anything? Especially a lack of chest, lol. The guy was even better than advertised. He battled for 7 innings. Kudos to him for giving way to his bullpen when the time came, which has also been stellar all year.

I'm pretty sure Skenes knew he was also getting near the end and OK with not pitching the 9th.

The head scratcher for me was pulling Massey at 37 pitches. But, I may have been jaded by how absolutely abysmal he made our 7-9 hitters in the 10th inning. They were not even remotely competitive.

Wake's formula has worked all year. Last night karma decided to bite Cam Minacci in the arse by way of Tommy Tanks!

The Wake coach is going to be second guessing himself for years. He was already kicking himself for now walking Beloso Game 1. Now he gets to dwell on "What if I left Massey in?"

How do you pull yourself out of a game like that?

there was no evidence on the mound of him being out of gas. only faced 4 batters in the 7th, no drop in fastball velocity. wasnt hanging off speed pitches.

so if he really decided that himself, again..wuss.

Nobody knows his body as well as himself. Pitching through fatigue or when something doesn't feel right is a great way to end a career.

Beat me to it. I saw him rubbing his elbow in the dugout before his final inning.
