Kid for Southern Miss tomorrow appears to be a dam good pitcher. Just guessing they throw Walker Powell a 6' 7" Righty who is 6-2 in 15 games started and has a 2.78 in 95 innings. Before someone jumps in and says look at the competition he shut out Mississippi State over 7.2.
He also has multiple complete games.

ASU brings in their 7th pitcher of the game to start the top of the 9th.
Ground out, 1 away for USM.
ASU catcher is now sitting on the ground to receive pitches.
Nice play by ASU third base, batter out 5-3. 2 away.
Announcer just said both teams kept their best relievers "on the shelf" once the game got out of hand.
Single to left center for USM. Runner on first, 2 away.
Bloop single to center field, center fielder kicks the ball into right field. Runners on second and third.
Ground out 5-3, side retired.
ASU coming to bat in the bottom of the 9th.

USM has 17 hits in this game. ASU 6 hits.
New pitcher for USM for the 9th inning. 4th pitcher of the day for USM.
And he issues a lead off walk. I've seen this movie before....
Runner on first for ASU, nobody out.
Base hit to left field. Runners on first and second for ASU and nobody out.
17 more hits like that and we've got a ball game!!!
Error, runner scores from second. Runners on first and second, nobody out.
Fly out to left field. 1 away, USM leads 15-3.

Powell is our ace but his upside isn’t close to Shepard’s.
Powell is a pitch-to-contact righty. Mostly works 86-88 with the FB plus a good cutter and an okay curve. Tall kid at 6-7 throwing downhill, so the ball has a downward trajectory.
He really should be a Saturday or Sunday guy for us but we didn’t have anyone else to put in that spot. He’s had a great year and has given us more than we could have expected.
His location has to be pinpoint. Small margin of error because his stuff isn’t that great. If he gets too much of the plate, things get ugly.
As a USM fan, I’m not too optimistic about how he will fare against a good lineup tomorrow.

According to my USM friends, they aren’t deep at all. They also saved their best pitcher for tomorrow.
Their staff isnt deep nor is the bullpen... but is LSU's

Yes, he is our ace. Gabe has the best velocity of the 2, but he isn't the better pitcher.

Did you miss the SEC tourney?

Old man, give me some of that stinky weed! Your posts are always comically inaccurate. SB only has 1 player off that 2012 team that has made it to MLB, Jankowski. They had 7 players drafted in 2012.
Keep up the good work.

Any relation to Miss State great Jay Powell?
