Saints are bad in a lot of areas right now.

Historically under his watch the Saints have had some really good units, at least they kick the ball out the end zone.

Yes, he absolutely can be.

He has been a thorn in Saints' fans side for years, but was never fired because he is SP's pretty much best friend.

He is a really, really bad ST coach.

WTH he was a horrible ST coach and only kept his job through friendship, not coaching. if this is who they hire he is no better then the last ST idiot LSU just got rid of, maybe even a step backwards.

To be fair, the Saints defensive talent has SUCKED for years and, except for the line, STs are mostly made up of defenders.

If a team has bad defenses, usually their STs suck

That doesn't explain our awful kick protection that resulted in 2 losses

are you fricking kidding me? I was so happy when payton finally canned this a-hole....and then we hire him. I can't get away from this guy.

There is no excuse for this if he's named ST Coach.

If you made a list of active ST Coaches that we could hire, he literally might be at the bottom of the list in college and pro.

He's horrendous.

I mean as a Shadow Staff this isn't the worst thing in the world. He does have experience.

If he becomes the ST coach or has a significant role...lol.

it would make no sense for him to be anything other than a shadow staffer. He's a terrible STs coach and I doubt he'd do much recruiting.

The only thing he could be good at is punt coverage

But that has more to do with Morstead being able to place the ball at the boundary than his coaching

Saints make the playoffs if it isn't for special teams imo

Legitimately cost them at least 2 games. Maybe more.

Remember how against Oakland on the last kickoff we weren't even ready for the kickoff resulting in at least 10 yards of field position. We ended up trying a 60+ yarder for the win

I don't disagree and I'd imagine McMahon had a great deal of input on drafting him, so still on him.

Saints special teams averages over the last five years:

Kick Return Total Yards - 24th
Average per Kick Return - 18th
Punt Return Total Yards - 26th
Average per Punt Return - 21st

So bottom half for the Saints return game.

Kick Return Yards Allowed - 20th
Average Yards Allowed per Kick Return - 25th
Punt Return Yards Allowed - 10th
Average Yards Allowed per Punt Return - 11th

So decent I guess in punt coverage. But if you've watched the Saints at all over the last few years, you know McMahon hasn't been great to say the least.

You people get too hung up on the titles these coaches carry.

I still hold out hope that Joe Rob comes home and coaches TE and STC?

Let it go, he isn't coming here.

Oh good God in heaven, if this guy has anything to do with LSU's special teams, we're screwed. Seriously, any Saints fan will tell you, he was by far the worst special teams coordinator in all of professional football and the worst I have seen at any level. This is no solution and is very, very bad news for Tiger fans.
