It's impossible to win when you score 0, you can still win if you give up 60

When you play in a weak league, you can win simply by scoring a lot of points. When you play in a league with competent players on both sides of the ball, you need a stout defense.

You can win games with a good offense and no defense. You can win games with no offense and a good defense. The good teams are pretty good at both. If you want to beat Bama these days, you better be real good at both.

Having dominant defense is part of LSU tradition, but in today’s football offense is what you need. I never thought I’d see Nick Saban adapt and have a prolific offense. That’s a sign that it’s time for everyone else to catch-up. The type of kids we recruit are athletic and fast enough to run that air raid spread offense.

It's really not much different. Just an extremely accurate QB and his typical WR's with speed.

His offense with AJ Maccaron was nothing like this. That offense was basically like this LSU offense. Once he got Kiffin his offense really opened up then Tua came and perfected it.

It’s painfully obvious that neither are you.

Sure I agree with this but along with this is the change in tackling. Players can no longer just REACT, they have to think and that means a DELAY, more yardage for O

The tackling rules are the same for everybody. How do you explain why these SEC defense:

#3 Mississippi State
#6 Alabama
#13 Georgia
#23 LSU
#24 Kentucky
#26 Texas A&M
#32 Florida

.....are all ranked ahead of the Big XII's highest ranked defense - #33 TCU?

The top 3 teams in the SEC East and the top 4 teams in the SEC West are all ranked in the top 32 defenses in the nation - These 7 defenses are in top 18 defenses of Power 5 conferences.

Meanwhile the defenses of 3 best teams in the Big XII are:
#63 Texas
#75 West Virginia
#108 Oklahoma

Statisistically, 13 of the SEC's 14 teams have a better defense than the highest ranked Big XII team. That is fricked up.

I never thought I'd ever say this, but watching Alabama skulldrag the likes of Oklahoma would be somewhat gratifying in a weird sort of way.

C) Putrid Offense with Elite Defense

Not quite. LSU has a good defense. But it’s nowhere near elite.

How come the lack of offense is always a negative point but the lack of defense never hinders a teams playoff chances?

If that's a valid observation it's only because college football is supposed to be entertainment. Very few people are entertained by offensive ineptitude, and viewership suffers.

Hate to say it but bama's air raid version offense will probably win this year. They still power run but they can sling it now.

What comes to my mind is, I had confidence that WVU still had a shot being down 10 points cause of their offense, I have the same feelings when the OU, Clemson, Texas, ND have the ball..... crisp, deliberate, calculating, organized, everyone on the same page...... I just don’t have these feelings when LSU has the ball.... pedestrian, crude, slow developing, underwhelming comes to mind. Georgia Game Plan being the exception, that was methodical and fun to watch...... thank God for our Defense or we’d be bottom tier for sure.

Our defense is not elite this year...unless our definitions of elite is different.
