Please go wiki Alabama Football. They have 18 claimed and 5 unclaimed Nattys. Oh and you guessed it, 2016 is in that number. So when they say 23 National Championships, 2016 is one of em. Pathetic man. Would love for you to read that Wiki and break it down for me Coach. Look all I know is when they say 23 Nattys that the Clemson loss is one of em, unclaimed though it may be. Dying to research those other 4 unclaimed Nattys. Well peace baw and thanks. T

Yes and no. They now refer to them as UNCLAIMED NATTYS and still count them in the total number when they announce

Wikipedia isn’t necessarily a reflection of what Alabama itself does or does not claim. I’ve ever only ever seen or heard the number that they claim from either the school or the fans, but I wouldn’t put it past them to count “unclaimed titles” as well.

AP #1 is not, and never well be a "championship" in an era where that is settled on the field. It was a tantrum by the AP. "Tantrumship" is a mouthful, though.

I don’t remember USC and LSU settling it on the field. I must have missed that. Was it a tantrum on the AP’s part when they move USC ahead of LSU for good on October 12? And if the polls were irrelevant, why did the BCS contract with the Coaches’ Poll to award #1 to the winner of their game?

One thing people forget is that OU had a better offense (3rd in country) & defense (5th in country)
They got waxed by Kansas State. Not impressive at all. LSU beat them in a one score game.

And what's ironic is USC willingly accepted and basked in the glory of their 2004 BCS Title, but ignored who the 2003 BCS Champions were

That's untrue. I think 2003 USC was better than 2003 LSU, but I'm happy to acknowledge them as co-champs that year. It was just the shitty BCS system that pissed us off, because we were clearly better than OU but because of Hawaii and ND losing games, the Sooners got in instead.

It’s pretty pathetic that we still have a ton of 40 and 50-year old fans who are in denial over USC’s 2003 national championship. The coaches poll crystal football is not the only national championship trophy awarded then or now. Here is a picture of the trophy they received:

LSU 2003 was better than USC 2003. LSU's D would have settled the game.

They already knew they were a lock for the title game before they played k state. Why risk serious injury.

The final score was closer than the game actually was. Conversely USC’s 28-14 win over Michigan was less dominant than that score. In no way did USC perform better in their bowl game than LSU did in theirs.

So it is your contention that the AP was planning ahead to register a protest vote against the BCS when they put USC ahead of LSU for good on October 12 after the Florida loss?

The fact that the NCAA recognized the AP poll cannot be argued but to not believe that the AP poll was giving the BCS system the middle finger as this article insinuates is laughable

as the writer in this article states
"I also think AP voters had a strong incentive to give the BCS the proverbial finger".

Rewatch the game. It was not as close as the score states. USC lost to an 8-6 Cal team. Oklahoma lost to an 11-4 team….in a Conference Championship game. Also, Kansas St. smoked Cal the same year.

There’s a difference between the AP Poll not allowing themselves to be swayed by the BCS and actually ranking USC #1 just to spite the BCS. They had USC ahead of LSU long before it became a source of controversy with the BCS, so their viewpoint on USC was not a product of the BCS snub. They stayed consistent to their prior evaluation of the two teams. We can agree they were wrong in that assessment, but it wasn’t a protest vote. It was a show of independence, perhaps, but not spite.
