Rewatching it now. Turrible call and the the fair hit down third base line. Just awful. Cost lsu 3-4 runs

Obviously a blown call--- ball was in fair territory when it was touched--a play like that should be reviewed in Regional, Super Regionals, & WCWS.

It's where the ball is when it hits the player. Not where the player is.

Ummmm no, doesn't matter at all where it WOULD have landed. It is called by, where the ball was touched. If it was touched in fair territory, it's a fair ball. Body placement mean nothing. It was a fair ball.

When the player touched the ball it does not matter where her feet or her glove were. The umpire will rule whether the ball is fair/foul by where it WOULD HAVE LANDED HAD IT NOT BEEN TOUCHED

And this would be wrong ruling.

To give an example if not already given, if a player touches a bunt before it rolls foul it is a live ball.

If player is in fair territory and the ball is in the air but in foul territory, the umpire should put his left arm out signaling foul ball but not verbally saying foul ball until ball is touched by a fielder or hits ground. In this case if ball is caught its an out or if it hits ground it is foul where umpire will then verbally say foul ball. The foul line represents an indivisible wall. If ball is in foul territory and player is in fair territory when touched its a foul ball caught or not caught. If ball and player are in fair territory and player drops ball and it rolls foul, its a fair ball.

No. All about where the ball is

I would rule the player interfered with the ball while in fair ground and thereby it would be in play. If the player were making a play on the ball for an out and causing the ball to fall in foul territory that is the gamble they make. Either let it fall foul or take the chance you do not make it allowing it to be fair.

The player did not allow the ball to fall by itself so then judging the trajectory in mid air is hard in real time by anyone. If this ball were not curling dramatically it would be very hard even on replay.

The correct answer is "not even umpires actually watch softball so we'll never know whether or not it was fair".

But isn't there a reason a third baseman will try to wait out a bunt if it is right on the line? In case it goes foul?

Yep.

With a ground ball, it already hit the ground in fair territory. If it crosses the baseline before leaving the infield, it becomes a foul ball. A bunt isn't going into the outfield so the third baseman will let it roll and hope it goes foul.
