Why not, it took him how many years to win a title?

Are you comparing Yvette G. to Bill Cowher? Please tell me you aren't.

come on, based on your logic, he would have been fired, it took him what, 15 years to win a title?

The goal of a coach is to be in a position to win your conference championship every year. If you do that then you're in good shape to compete for a national championship, which is what a reasonable AD would expect in a sport like softball. National Championships should not be the measuring stick on whether or not a coach keeps his/her job.

But what happens in the post season should.

When they no longer put your team in a position to have a chance at winning it all, depending on the program of course, some programs will never win it and getting to the postseason is enough in itself. As long as your program isn't on a downward slope and isn't stagnant below postseason standards, i think coaches should keep their jobs

The fact that they're in the post season every year is exactly why she won't or shouldn't be fired. LSU will compete for a conference championship every year and will make the WCWS more yrs than not. In a non-revenue sport like softball, that's all any AD cares about. All we can ask as fans is a shot at winning a NC most years and not expect it.

I think you and Josh are setting softball standards low then. You are saying it's ok that they don't "ever" win a Nat. Title as long as they just make it to post-season. I'd be willing to bet there are die hard softball fans that aren't ok with that. I am sure the die hards are similar to the die hard football fans. Me being a die hard football fan I "expect" Les Miles to win another N.C. in the next 7 to 10 years (if he is still here). If he doesn't LSU might need to start looking for someone else. There is nothing wrong with having high expectations for you sports programs. Look at Florida in the last 5 years. They are by far the best overall SEC program.

There aren't very many die hard softball fans and the few that they have are like family. They probably talk with Coach Girard on a first name basis and have no interest in her being fired. The fact that we compete for an SEC championship every yr and win it some yrs is all you can expect. It's the same thing with football. We should expect conference championships, but not nat'l championships IMO.

Agreed. Although we have a new ball park now, don't forget we lost our prior coach to Baylor...that's right Baylor...because LSU wasn't spending the money that he thought it would take to continue being successful. With the limitations Yvette had with the old ballpark and what she was able to accomplish proves to me that she is the right person for the job. Under Lee's scenario, all SEC softball coaches (at least at the big time schools) would have to be fired because none have won national titles. I just think that is too high of a standard for anyone.

WOW. You and I are complete different then. I don't expect LSU to win one every year, but I do expect them to get there or win one every so often. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

I realize that Lee, but no team in the SEC has won the national title in softball. Essentially, you're holding Yvette up to a standard higher than her counterparts in this league.

Unrealistic would be expecting it every year, but just expecting is not unrealistic.
