I personally think the Griggs girl is a good looking young lady.

Yeah, she is a cutie. I say this in a non-creepy way as a man more than twice her age

Another ranked team, another run rule win... business as usual.

Why does softball have run rules? I mean they only play 7 innings just let them play out the games.

I agree. IMO that helps out teams without deep pitching staffs. Take the loss you would take anyway, but save your arms?

It's basically a mercy rule, and I'm pretty sure that baseball also has a run rule.

Yeah, but baseball doesn't always enforce the run rule, and I know they can't in the NCAA tournament. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think softball enforces it in every game.

I thought baseball only has a run rule in place during the SEC tourney. I don't think they have a run rule during the regular season. Kyle Peterson has been making comments that he thinks they need one on get out of town games.

I don't think it's enforced in the championship series in the WCWS.

I thought the run rule in baseball had to be previously agreed upon by both coaches?

Clearly we need someone who knows to chime in...

The softball rule has always been 8 runs after 5 innings or more. I honestly think it was instituted back in the old days because they played so many double headers and tournaments and the mercy rule was a time-saving measure. The one poster was correct about the mercy-rule being taken away in the 3-game championship series.

As for baseball, the only time that a mercy rule seems to be "standard" that I have seen is at the SEC tournament, where it is 10 runs after 7 innings. This was clearly done as a time-saving measure because with 4 games in a day, the schedule can get back-logged pretty quickly.

As for midweek games, coaches can mutually agree to run-rules as they see fit. I don't think they can do that in league games…they have to play those out.

What's great about softball is that no one leaves early. You generally get them for all four years.
