The two transfers are gonna be huge for this lineup
Pitching will decide how far they go

I wonder if we throw one of the freshmen against oregon state. Would be telling how excited we are about them

Beth sounded positively giddy about Johnson, why not tag team her and Chaffin see what they have.

I watched Maci Bergeron while she was at NDHS and I was anxious to see how she would transition to the bigger stage. I was worried her size might be more of a detriment at the next level. She looked unfazed as a freshman. Her plate appearances and swings were aggressive and she even looked good swinging down in the count. I think LSU found its catcher for the next 4 years.

Thanks lsuman for the thread. I was traveling from Amarillo area to Brownwood this evening (funeral for long time softball coaches & great friends in both locations) so I wasn't able to watch or listen. Reading the play by play and commentary was so helpful to get a good review of the game. Thanks again so much

Has anyone ever done a pitch by pitch for softball like baseball that would be nice but I understand the complexity and time consuming effort to do this.

Bergeron catching and Carson DP

Is this just a matter of Torina getting the freshman some work behind the plate to see what she can do or does Bergeron really have the upper hand on starts at catcher (or more of a shared role)?

I would guess that Maci is the starter and will get some relief behind the plate during double header type games. Maci will likely DH in those type of games. Savoy can also hit, so it wouldn’t surprise me if she had some opportunities at the plate at DH. She is another left handed hitter and she can hit for power.

I'd imagine Guiterrez will get some DH time when Carson is catching

Nice start to the season. I enjoyed watching the game on SECN+ without certain parties in the seats behind the plate.

The transfers and Bergeron look like they may deliver some needed pop to the lineup. Let’s hope they avoid getting Dobson-ized. As others have said, the key to an overdue return to OKC is pitching after Kilponen.

I personally think this is a make or break year for Torina and her staff. But who knows? Scott Woodward may be okay with a top-twenty-five-ish team that never makes OKC. He’s the guy running things.

But with Oklahoma and Texas coming aboard next season, things will not get any easier if this program cannot take the next step forward.
