From the other thread:

They were trying a few new things last night, including several third and long plays where they left our base defense on the field. Those were some of the plays where we got gashed because the LB was not on the RB fast enough. They also ran several plays with 5 DL on the field and at least a couple where we lined up TJ inside and had 3 DE and only 1 DT. I think they thought Moo State was a good team to experiment against. Good enough to test your schemes, not good enough to really worry if something failed. They saw what did not work and should fix it.

On a related note, I think Jai Eugene has come a long way from his towel waving role (now held by Ron Brooks). Great closing speed, tackling well-and there was a lot of hating on him by Rantards, so let's give these youngsters a little seasoning and I think they will be OK. Riley is blowing stuff up all over the field, but I would sure like to see this Baker kid get some snaps. If you watch our progression over the years, the ones kicking arse on kickoff coverage progress to being terrific on defense (Beckwith and Coleman come to mind).

Added: oh yeah, McCray can't cover. Thought we would see more Phelon.

An even better question is whats wrong with sloblopro?? it seems he is a frustrated armchair coach/qb. Just stick with your day job making fries and leave the coaching and playing to those that are qualified. be a fan and enjoy the ride.

I agree that LSU didn't prepare for defending Lee and MSU changed up its offense entirely. Also, this was Mallory/Peveto's first game of the season against a traditiontal offense. They need to figure out their team. If you watched the game, you noticed that the LBers just missed coverages. Plain and simple. Also, turnovers swung momentum in the first half and the defense played like crap.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!

We've got two weeks to look work on our defensive scheme and coverage. We'll be a'ight.

I am thankful that our defense played a decent game, our offense is working well, and we didn't lose when so many other top 10 teams did to teams that are about the same as MSU. USC, Florida, Wake, Wisconsin, I would guess they have more to worry about than we do.
I don't get the doom and gloom view that seems pretty popular on here. The Tigers made some mistakes, but we won, those kids did a damn fine job, and I expect them to keep winning. I refuse to invest the time I can spend relishing a win, in pointing out supposed mistakes that I have the luxury of identifying while sitting my "less-atlehtic arse" in an armchair drinking. I am sure you guys will flame me, but I enjoy the games much more when I don't beat down the Tigers and just enjoy winning. They all must be doing something right, I am pretty sure we will still be in the top 5 when the polls come out, and Florida, USC, and Georgia won't be able to say that. Just my opinion

Auburn took advantage of a couple busted coverages. That's about it.

Shouldn't you consider the opponent? Auburn gave up 116 yards against MSU. And MSU only had around 350 yards against LaTech ... yeah, I said LaTech!

Our D was subpar last night by LSU standards. Last week, too.

Look, the defense is great; they just didn't play well in the second half. LB position was our problem last year and again this game it showed. Two observations, their QB had a great second half and that will make any D look sub-par. He hung in with a tough rush and some bilzes, got some scrambles, made no dumb throws. My big observation was in passing situations our LB got themselves picked and the DB's didn't cover quickly and pursue after the catches. No turner overs hurts a defensive spirit. The D played flat.

How can it be great when we give up more yards to Auburn than MSU and Tenn did. Auburn scored 14 on our D, which is more than Tenn and MSU gave up combined (10). Auburn's offense and QBs are horrible, but had more success against our great D. Does that make Tenn and MSU's D super great?

And let's not talk about how awful MSU is on offense. We may end up being a great defense before the season is over, but we have not played that way the last two games. To say otherwise is to ignore the facts.

We have two weeks to get things corrected.

UT gave up 226 total yards to AU yesterday in a losing effort. Let's be real and say AU's offense is lackluster and Crompton for UT is a horrible QB. I am concerned in the drop off upfront when the # 1 DT's are out of the game, it was evident the squad had the same issue last season when Alexander went down and Dorsey was hurt for the remainder of the season. The defense is capable of playing much better. G Tech has a good defense and LSU has better talent, the coaches need to improve the play of the unit. Run D was excellent until Alexander left the game, he is the cog to the line, no one is better against the run than him on the team.

Some of the momentum loss on the 2 sequential turnovers did not help. Goes to show what can happen with turnovers and mistakes against SEC opponents. In what could have been a let down game after the AU game we should all be happy with a W. Lee looks like he is going to be a good one. 4-0 is great in my book.

I agree with you. Take home point is enjoy the win. So far this season we are 4-0, but from some of the posts thus far you would think we were 0-4. Yes we do have things to work on and im sure they will. Yes we must continue to get better and play better. Thats why they practice every week. There are plenty of areas we need some work in, no need to point every single thing out. I think people forget these athletes are kids not professionals. They make mistakes get over it. They are still learning, they dont know everything, they get nervous, they forget. They dont spend every dying second improving their game. They go to school, take tests, have a life. Yet they get criticized for every mistake here. YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME. You win the game its a good day.

The D totally broke-down in the 4th quarter and allowed 2 long TD drives. We couldn't stop them, and that's not good at all considering it's Mississippi State.

we played an autopilot game tonight. When we needed intensity we turned it on,

MSU would have pulled it to a 3 point game with like 6 minutes left if their RB had caught that pass

we needed the intensity then
