Tigers won, im taking it real easy. Sure we have room for improvement. That goes without saying. Every team in the country has room for improvement. The majority of our secondary and LBs are first time starters. Expected some growing pains this season. We gave up 10 pts on turnovers. That concerns me. We seemed to be mixed up at times in the secondary and Im sure they will take a good look at that and attempt to correct it. Ill take a win every day.

It didn't help that our 2 starting DTs went down in late 1st/early 2nd. That was when MSU started started making headway running the ball. That, in turn, opened up the pass a bit. Before that point, they were not having any success running the football.

The running back coverage is not a new issue, either. Ark burned us 2 or 3 times last year with Hillis out of the backfield.

Hopefully the coaching staff can use the open date to fix some of these seconday assignment issues and get healthy.

Maybe LSU should be like every other team and use a cornerback in the Nickel.

Ole Miss SUCKS, I mean Sucks. Remember they lost to Vandy. They beat Florida today and LSU beat Miss. St. today. Its a win bottom line. Wins dont have to be pretty. The turnovers were our biggest problem today. 10 pts and we almost lost LaFell's in the end zone for another 7.

its really not that bad if u break it down

AU- 14 pts on the road, not to shabby. They didnt run the ball at all. Had few big plays that didnt show up tonight. We also forced 2 TO's

MSU- dinking it to the RB's is something that can easily be fixed. Id imagine when Beckwith returns, that should bolster that, as well as a slight schematic adjustment.

The run D was good for the most part.

MSU got the ball 11 times, and only had 2 real sustained drives. 10 pts came off TO's, were they marched a combined 52 yards for those scores.

Should we had given that up(2 sustained drives)? prob not. Its MSU. Their OFF is horrible But dinking and dunking is a lot easier to fix than big plays. They found a weakness, and kept hitting it over and over.

They had 8 drives of 11, consisting of 29 plays, that went for only 92 yards.

They also didnt break 300 yards of total offense, which is usually a good DEf effort

If Carroll had played qb in this game, like there other losses, it would have been a huge blowout. He would have forced the ball and thrown picks. Instead, Croom finally woke up and put this new guy in, who did a very good job considering he was making his first start in a hostile environment. He was smart. I never saw him throw into coverage. I think he was almost picked one time, but that's it.

State will not be an offensive machine by any stretch, but they will improve with the new qb starting.

I agree that LSU didn't prepare for defending Lee and MSU changed up its offense entirely. Also, this was Mallory/Peveto's first game of the season against a traditiontal offense. They need to figure out their team. If you watched the game, you noticed that the LBers just missed coverages. Plain and simple. Also, turnovers swung momentum in the first half and the defense played like crap.

The other thing people aren't realizing is that this team on defense probably read its own clippings and was still flying high from its first win AT Auburn in 10 years. This is where we'll miss the leadership from last year.

Your spot on Earl.

Nothing is wrong with our defense.....we played an autopilot game tonight. When we needed intensity we turned it on, we did it last week against Auburn and this week against MSU.

We play the run well, especially between the tackles.

We gave up the running back when they spread it out based on scheme alone. Not once did we throw any zone in the mix during that last quarter.

That MSU qb also was a slippery little cat and a much needed surge to the MSU offense.

Whenever teams are gonna spread us out like that and try to utilize the rb out the backfield we need to put an athletic guy in at LB or sub another corner and man up!

Wow, maybe I'm naive, but I do not agree with you on this. The object is not to see how few yards you can allow relative to the other teams that played this team or whathaveyou--the object is to give up less points than your offense scores in every game, and I don't think that goal was ever in question tonight. Giving up yards and plays in a game that you clearly have control over is not the same as giving them up in a close one. I might be wrong, but I did not come away from this game with any negative feelings about our defense. They did what they needed to do.

ON this one we agree nearly on all points you make, Slo

We need to blitz more.

McCray is a problem.

Our young CB's are not ready to be left on an island that long without QB pressure.

Mallory and Paveto are the constants in all these broken pass coverage deals over the last few years and continued significantly into this year, and now with hardly any blitz packages.

Tebow and Stafford will be in must win games against us. Snead will mop the floor against us with these schemes. Heck, if we played USC, i think they would destroy these schemes.

Will these hard-headed mofos 1) be smart enouigh to adjust and add the blitz more frequently, or 2) learn how to coach these young CB's, nickel/dime cover guys and LB's ?

I thought the same thing last year with the blitzing. The later it got in the year the better the D got though. The defense appears very vanilla with very little blitzing and mostly man under. This could be because the cord's think our D line is strong enough to apply pressure without the blitz, which they are doing a pretty good job of if not for the quick underneath passing of the other teams. Maybe the cords don't want to show off their blitz packages until they absolutly have to, which hasn't been the case to this point.

We can stay vanilla as long as Chuck keeps winning us games with 140 rushing yards and multiple touchdowns every week.

our LBs have looked bad in pass coverage. really bad. the move to more man has left them 1-on-1 with RBs and they've had some serious problems.

I wouldn't have as much of a problem with this if we were getting more pressure on the QB.

I sincerely mean this now(I'm not being a nazi at anyone's comments)....I absolutely love the fact that after a nice SEC win we are at a level in this program where LSU fans try to find stuff wrong with the football team. It's awesome to be at a level where you can win but it wasn't by enough points. That shows something right there.

# major meys

McCray is awful in coverage.

Safetys need to lock up and make tackles instead of trying to decapitate the runner/receiver

Riley in particular is not picking up the backs coming out of the backfield, quickly enough.

DL is fine. Corners overall playing above average.

Lee was forced to throw the ball away several times in the face of heavy LSU blitzing, but was sacked only once and finished 17-of-26 for 175 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.

our DL is not living up to the hype in terms of pass rushing.

They will be fine with Alexander and RJF 100% IMO. No matter what the tv guys say, there is a drop off when those 2 come out. I'd like to see Alem a touch more.
