SC's only given up 3 passing TD's all year and have 8 ints. 28th passing defense. Top 30 in passing yards allowed. Is that a weak secondary?
OTOH, they have the #9 rushing defense. Not sure running at them all night is strength vs weakness.

I'm with you on this one BigED. I've said it all week.
But, I'm not pig-headed enough to place all my eggs in that basket. Without moderate success with that approach, I would definitely change gears.
With moderate success on the ground running at the ends, and using misdirection, I could see Jacobs and Clement having a big game.
I'm also looking to give the staff a little credit for finally implementing some sort of wildcat variation for this game. If they don't, they never will.

We will challenge their secondary until Mett makes a mistake. Then we go quick outs and run up the middle.
This has been the scheme, just intensified since 9-6 game. One mistake, shut it down. Def com 5
This, unfortunately.

If we do not open up(or fix)the offense, and the defense has to play the whole game, this game will not fair well for us. Frankly this is more about coaching style and Im just not sure the "passing game" has been given proper attention by the coaching staff. We all saw this offensive music last year....somewhat depressing...

Teams haven't been able to hit the deep ball against us because they don't have the time to let it play out.
IMO, USC will stay man or man-free until it's proven that LSU can protect the throw, and catch footballs vs the corners.
Some thoughts on Clowney.
It is very possible to keep too much protection in vs Clowney.
3/5 step routes from shotgun for vision and releasing practically everybody on combo routes of shallow cross, along with stick, snags and drags could cause a coverage change and draw 2 safety.
Probably best to line up surest hands at slot though because it's dangerous ball in the middle.
With a slant to clear out and decent blocking, a RB can chip Clowney and catch dumps in the space he vacates also.
A hi-lo smash with TE/slot and WR also works well, if you can protect the throw or provide hot outlet. It takes some nice throws and I'm not sure Mett has the developed the pocket moxie to do a triangle read vs Clowney though.

So we face a very weak Secondary...
If you don't mind me asking, what makes you say this?
EDIT: this looks to be already addressed above....our secondary has given up these numbers thus far:
Vandy: 214 yds, 1 TD
ECU: 333 yds, 1 TD
UAB: 240 yds, 0 TD
Mizzou: 146 yds, 1 TD
UK: 123 yds, 0 TD
UGA: 109 yds, 0 TD
That's good for 194.17 passing yds allowed per game, and 28th in the nation. But it's even more impressive when you consider:
Vandy had 78 of their yds and their lone TD on a busted pass play where our safety was in position to drop the WR, but he made a boneheaded move. He's played an above-solid season since, and it's hardly likely that if the same play happened 10 more times, that the Vandy WR would score on any of them. Minus that one play, Vandy threw for 136 yds and 0 TD...
USC was holding ECU's prolific passing offense to 193 yds and 0 TD, then pulled the starters....ECU's back-up QB (who's now their starter) threw for 140 yds in 1.5 quarters and all 10 pts...
It's also impressive that in the past 4 weeks, we've held our opponents to 154.5 passing ypg and only 1 single TD (and that was to Missouri that was scored with 17 seconds left in the game, also against our back-ups). 3 of those 4 were against SEC opponents who are 4th, 8th, and 9th in the SEC in passing O...
Overall, the passing offenses we've faced have not been stellar.....but if one would expect a great passing defense to shut down passing Os like that, then ours must be pretty good. Perhaps not "elite", but hardly "very weak"....

Well if you give the opposing qb 5-7 sec to make a pass your secondary is not going to be able to cover the wideouts for that long. If we have a great pass rush and it's helping our secondary I'm not sure how that makes our secondary weak.
That's the way bama does it, you guys did it last season, and every other good pass defense does it. Good secondary's are built from the inside out not the other way around.
I expect ward to do whatever slows LSU down according to what he sees. He doesn't fall in love with a certain scheme and he's not afraid to blitz and more importantly he knows how to make adjustments during the game. If Ellis Johnson was coaching this unit it would not be as good as it has been thus far.

Les won't challenge their weak secondary because Carolina's D line is going to blow up out O line and not give Mett any time.
Just like Auburn in 2010.

Challenge them in any way. We are going to try to run the ball. I wish that we would drop back, or roll the pocket, or give him a pistol deep drop...

If we played a team that had the best DLINE and LB's in the country and the weakest DB's
Miles and OC would not adjust and still try to run 60% of the time. The staff doesn't adjust well they never have.
Even chavis never adjusted well against spurrier in the 90's.
We are a predictable and dumb football team. I love LSU football but it's time we face the facts.

Parking (passing) brakes are set and the wheels are chocked. Prepare for an old school football offense.
Defensive coordinators will figure it out less, the more we try it.
It's the players, after all.
