What was yalls impressions after first game???
I think we'll be good after the next game or two. Wisconsin is known for great Oline play so there's that.
Hopefully Valentine gets in a little better shape, he was hot and cold. Lewis was a nonfactor.

One glaring weakness was OLB coverage...yikes. Key and Bower just aren't made for that. And Divinity is young. Key is exciting rushing though. Duke was a pleasant surprise I thought.

DBs... Thought the safeties were ok, White was great. Thought Toliver had an under performing game.

Defense was on the field 90% of the game because the offense sucked and only managed to give up 16 points. Great Job

Defense looked fine. We will face better qbs. And better wr. We missed some tackles and left the te open a lot in the 1st half but no really big plays. And we had 3 takeawys.

Defense is not our problem.

Defense played great considering they were on the field for most of the game.

Looked somewhat out of sorts the first few series, but I thought they found their place nicely. The man to man on the outside was nice to see. Thought the D line looked lazy. I saw multiple times where the back side pursuit from our D lineman consisted of walking... LBers I thought played well. It looked as if Key was somewhat out of his game early on in the spots they had him in. Looked like they realized that though and made the adjustment nicely. Overall, considering they were on the field the ENTIRE fricking game, I think they played well.

Dline is underwhelming in the 3-4. I honestly thought they looked better with the 4 man front. This is going to be the case until they are more comfortable in the new systems.

LBs were underwhelming for most of the game. Beckwith was missing tackles left and right in the first half, but played well in the second. Riley is what I expected, a solid but unspectacular player. Divinity showed promise. Bower is meh. Key is a monster rushing the passer from the OLB spot.

DBs were solid overall, but had some issues. White obviously played great. The only time I noticed Tolliver was when he got trucked by the QB. Jackson had a poor game IMO. Even his forced fumble came on a poor tackle attempt. Adams is Adams, a stud. Jefferson was solid.

Yea I understand we have more pressing concerns

But just wanted to see what everyone thought. The missed tackles really cost us. I think we stopped consistent tackling drills after suffering the camp injuries, and it showed.

Im looking for improvement from TV, Lewis, Bower and Toliver here on out

First thought. Vanilla.

2nd thought - why can't we cover the TE - oh wait, our D never sees that. Never mind.

3rd thought - we're still not that big in the front 7. I know Valentine is huge, but we still have a lot of smaller guys in the front 7.

Also think about this.

Our d scored 7.

Our D set up the other 7 with a turnover on the opponents side of the 50.

That's 14.
Miles gave them 3 by going for a 4th and on our side of the field.

Our D helped us get 14. They gave up 13 pts with our coach handing them another 3.

Defense was very good

330 yards
16 points
3 turnovers
1 TD

Could have been a little better but thought for a first game in a new system we didn't recruit for, they did a good job. We lost a few defensive linemen for this game, and started a freshman at OLB.

Really only that TE killed us and that was due to our LBs having to over which they simply are not used to doing much of. They didnt really run the ball all that well against us and Clement is a beast. Bart Houston posted a QB rating worse than Harris so you know we did something right there.

I think improvement wise we need to force more 3 and outs and cover the TE better. About the only major areas for improvement I saw.

Defense was not perfect but for first game with a new system and new coach it was good. All the breakdowns can be corrected. It was shown that Aranda can make in game adjustments too.

However, whats concerning is that people are afraid of getting rid of Miles because it likely means the loss of Moffit.

After Moffits antics on twitter you can bet Fisher would love to fire him on the spot. Herman would probably bring in a more cutting edge S&C guru.

TEs will be the death of us but the defense was plenty good enough for the win Saturday.

I thought we could be better on first downs though. Wisconsin was rarely behind the chains.

Defense again had to stay on the field way to long, the story of the last few years. 73 plays is a lot compared to 50 for us. Their offense taking 23 more snaps is huge. TOP 37 to 23, again that won't cut it!

OLB will have trouble in pass coverage. Other than that I really liked what I saw.

It usually takes a few games to get everything down. I'm sure Aranda will have the D humming by the 3rd game.

I'm not a huge 3-4 fan myself, but Bama has been running it for years in the SEC with great success so....
