you are correct that it was the right call to make that kick
Not really. There hasn't been a FG made all college season that long. The longest this season by the pros was 58.
The kid made one 20 yard FG all year.
Throwing the deep ball was a better call. If it misses, you go into OT.
Alabama was not ready to defend a FG return. Another blunder.

Saban doesn't recruit ESPN does

So Les Miles goes for a 57 yd field goal...
Remember the Arkansas game a few years back when Miles went for about a 70 yard field goal...One of the dumber things Les has done in a long list of dumb things.

all coaches have a long list of dumb things. Everything that doesn't work is dumb in hindsight and you are dumb for not knowing that

It won't matter. Bama will get another mulligan. Something will happen in next week games that will give the voters a chance to vault Bama back in to the NC game.

I seen this thread yesterday morning and was unable to comment - I could see half of the rant whackos getting a rope and finding a large oak tree, while the other half was at the Airport waiting for the team plane and try to grab Les. Of course Nick is getting a free ride and I'm sure the BCS gods will find a way to get bama in the title game.

Saban has had a less harsh reception on this board than he deserves for blowing this one. I know he's getting blasted by the gumps. Makes a nice transition to a 9 mil a year Texas job...
Almost like he set it up that way.

He set it up that way at LSU....

I had the thought several times during the game that Bama was intentionally blowing it, crazy as that may be. On two occasions the WR went up for a ball then pulled his arms down as the ball went by. There were a couple of whiff tackles that looked half-hearted as well.

Saban got out coached, plain and simple. And I am loving every minute of it!!!

Saban didn't have his team ready to play in their biggest game of the season. Even though they have the most talent in the SEC, the easiest path to the SEC title, and the SEC office blocking for them, they have only one SEC title in four seasons.
If Miles had tried that play with the same results for LSU, this board would have crashed five times by now with the Miles bashers crawling out from everywhere.
It's funny as hell to have the Saban nut lickers being so silent and not to be seen.

it turned out to be the wrong decision, but am i the only one who doesn't think that it was a bad idea, 100%? as herm edwards said, "you play to win the game." i mean, prior to ODB running that one back this year, i can't remember the last time i saw a team return a missed FG for a touchdown. the kicker missed, but it wasn't like he was way off, either. the fact is that it was the wrong decision only by virtue of the fact that it resulted in the loss. had he still missed but the kick not been returned for a touchdown, no one would be batting an eyelash at the long FG decision.
but i'm a les miles guy and i have a want for saban to lose in the worst way. (just in case anyone accuses me of being a saban apologist here)

Saban might have had another motive for that decision. His team didn't catch it but it was in desperation because he didn't want to let his team know that he was scared he may lose in OT. He didn't trust them to win in overtime. He thought Auburn would make him look bad in the OT if he wouldn't win. And at first I think he thought he was going to overtime anyway when he saw the kick come up short then he may have realized at that moment the possibility that it would be brought back for an Auburn TD. Or he never thought it was legal to do so. I really wish I knew what he was saying as he was walking toward the direction of the run back.

You must have missed the game Saturday.
And the aTm game last year.
And the LSU game in 2011.
And the USCe, LSU, and Auburn games in 2010.
And the loses to ULM and UAB...
How about losing to Utah in the Sugar Bowl?
Iowa in the Cap One in 2004?
UGA 2004.
I could name a few more.

I'll NOT be visiting Bama sites.

Well, if you go by this board, what you would do is apply the same logic you do to why Les wins (Coordinators, other peoples recruits, etc.) and apply it to why Saban looses.
There is one thing about Alabama that I am thankful for, though, and that is the bottom feeding portion of their fanbase saves our fanbase from being the most pathetic fanbase around.
ETA. I really am not talking about the bulk of either fanbase, just the vocal, obnoxious groups that get most of the exposure. At least we don't poison iconic symbols of an opponent, post video's of ourselves sexually assaulting other teams passed out fans, or shoot a fellow fan because they are nit upset enough about a loss.

nah, as soon as they lined up I thought they were making the mistake not trying the Hail Mary. You've got Norwood, the big TE, and Cooper with AJ's arm. As soon as I saw the returner go back after the timeout, I would have called off the FG.
Had the kick been from inside 50, no question it would have been the correct call
