You're pretending that Aggy has been given preferential treatment.
Seems like you're the dense one......how are they not getting preferential treatment? They want the game on Thursday (CBS can't/won't televise it), and we want it on Saturday night..I'm sure ESPN would have no issues televising it then.

You're absolutely correct, but the great majority of Tiger fans who travel hate this, much like the majority of our fans despise the Friday game.

quote:Perhaps you missed it, but the SEC announced next year's schedule earlier this week and the LSU/A&M game at Tiger Stadium will be on Saturday, kickoff time will, however, be subject to TV decision.
If we agree to do this we should get the return game on Saturday night....not Friday afternoon
Like I said, I think this game is not going to be played on Black Friday at any point. If CBS wants a game that day, I think that Arkansas and Missouri might be willing.

That's really not correct. All games for the final weekend are dated for that Saturday (unless I missed it, sometime during the spring/summer SEC meetings they announce the special playing times(CBS's 2 doubleheaders/date.) That's the way it has been done for years anyway.

The main point the OP was stating had nothing to do with when LSU plays A&M in College Station. Regardless of how or why that agreement was reached, it's been accepted as fact since it came up last yr.That's a non issue as it relates to the OP's post. The OP's bitch here is that now it appears LSU may have to play on Thanksgiving nite here in TS & JA is apparently caving in, claiming he has no sayso. Whereas the Aggies were apparently able to dictate their day/time in their stadium. If this was an isolated event,i.e. JA giving in, he would probably get a semi pass. But the perception, based on the past, is that he gives in all the time & never seems to stand up for LSU. LSU is a charter member of the league. A&M is brand new. Yet, they are demanding & getting whatever they want; or that is the strong perception, anyway.

quote:Great way to look at it. Expansion made the SEC go from four final weekend match ups (Egg, Iron, Boot, UT/UK) to five (LSU/Aggy, Arky/Mizz, Egg, Iron, UT/VU), meaning there are more chances to take the national stage, meaning everyone is more likely to be placated, including LSU. Arkansas and Missouri show no signs of being against playing on Friday, so I expect they'll take that slot more often than not, opening an obvious door for LSU to play their final home game on Saturday every year.

LSU fans don't realize that all things considered, this makes for more possibilities of Saturday night games.

Before the latest expansion, every year when the sec week by week schedule was announced the lsu/arkansas game was listed as a Saturday game. and every summer it was changed to the Friday after thanksgiving.

Correct. That is not what I am arguing
Well, it kind of is what you are arguing, given that you have told me and others to just give it up, on the grounds of it being just one game. Please don't act like you aren't instigating in this thread, as you could have just left it at your last post.
There are teams that play on CBS on Saturday, I think it is fairly unanimous that we would prefer our home games on Saturday. If we have to play an away game on a holiday, I just think we would like to see our AD to go down swinging to get us in that Saturday slot.
I know that it might not mean much to you, and others for that matter, but the game will be a disruption to thanksgiving plans. While they might not be getting preferential treatment, they are being allowed to carry on a tradition. We have been force fed this Friday game since I can remember, which has been pointed to as our lack of tradition in this game week. Saturday night in death valley is certainty a tradition.

Playing at 1 on Friday makes it harder to make it. We struggled in those games under saban and miles. Id rather play Saturday night and win that game. Plus I live in BR and leave town for thanksgiving, makes it a pain to get back Fri afternoon.
Tamu gets their way, we don't. It is pretty simple actually.

He never promised us a Saturday night game in return. I'm not sure why people said this for the longest time. He only said that we would not play on Thanksgiving day when the game is in BR. LSU gave the Aggies what they wanted and got nothing in return.

You people are being so silly and narrow about this. This benefits LSU and does not hurt LSU. Here's what I mean:
Used to, when CBS had to choose their Friday game, they were choosing between Boot, Egg, Iron, and Hillbilly. More often than we realize, Boot was the best choice for CBS on that day, so I think all but once iirc, LSU and Arkansas played on Friday.
Fast forward 20 or so years to now.
Now CBS has Egg, Iron, Hillbilly, Gulf, and Ozark. Obviously they'll have their eye on Iron all year; that's the crown jewel of cfb rivalry games, so look for that to be played mid-Saturday on CBS more often than not, right? Then I guess they pick the Friday game, right? This is really a guess, but it's a strong hunch: they're gonna make a habit of doing Arkansas/Missouri on Friday, and neither school will resist.
Now you've got a situation where the Egg and Gulf get noon and prime time, and we know damn well that shite in Mississippi ain't gonna last, meaning we're gonna say goodbye to LSU's seniors on Saturday night more often than not in the odd# years. Not every time, but when LSU is taken off the consistent Friday spot (the idea that LSU will play all its A&M home games on Friday is something I find to be inconceivable), the Saturday night door is open.
Thus, more Saturday night home SEC games. That's what we want. That's what we're going to get. And all we want to do is bitch about A&M's home game.

How does one infer that from this:
quote:
Joe: "[Home games are] not going to Thursday, I told them I'm not playing Thursday night in Tiger Stadium. A&M likes to play on Thursdays on Thanksgiving day, and obviously we're doing that this year and probably every year we go to A&M"
Alleva said that we won't play a home game on Thanksgiving and I expect that will be the case.
Posted on 10/16/14 at 10:55 am to TJG210
A&M being able to play Thanksgiving night, ok. Tradition, rabble rabble.
But if they demand scheduling the game at that day and time, we (LSU, Joe Alleva) should have done the same for our home game.
Should have put up a fuss...shouldn't have agreed with A&M to guarantee their home game day/time until the Saturday night at LSU was guaranteed.
Could have made our night game A&M's issue in the process, but now A&M has no vested interest in when the game is played in Tiger Stadium.

quote:Aggy gets one thanksgiving game every two years out of this. I guarantee that, considering all things related to the expansion into Texas and Missouri, LSU ends up with AT LEAST an additional Saturday night home SEC game every two years as compared to the previous five or so seasons. The schools are being treated equally, and those imagining a savage injustice are being children.
Tamu gets their way, we don't. It is pretty simple actually.

Not the way it works. Demanding Saturday night home games just isn't on the table. The rest of the conference isn't going to bend over backwards and violate a valuable contract to placate a message board.

Look, the logic is sound, but I just don't agree with this part. I'm not sure if where I stand is the minority or not, but I would rather not play on thanksgiving at all. Its a holiday, and u would prefer not be stressed out about making it to my side and my wifes' family events, while also wanting to watch the game, and dealing with the anxiety of gameday on a holiday.
I would rather take my medicine and just deal with what conference and TV stations choose our time slot to be than to ever have to play on thanksgiving.
Given the fact that we now have to play every other year on thanksgiving, I would prefer to know that the following year won't be the day after.
I don't think its silly at all. Its not a huge deal, but it sure seems like one team got what they wanted and the other team got nothing.
