So it looks like LSU did win the NC in 2003

Since the Associated Press poll era began in 1936, no coach in college football history has ever won national championships at two different schools. Saban won one at LSU in 2003 - ESPN
LINK
And there's usually no reference to 'BCS' or 'AP' either. I guess this means we've won back the 2003 title. No more of the 3 pete BS.
It's funny how they toss around that NC depending on how hot USC is. The Trojans have a down year and all of a sudden, the media says it's LSUs again.
I guess some good may have come from Bama's NC run after all.

Yeah kinda funny how no one recognized LSU for the bcs national championship, it was all USC won 2 championships. Now that Saban is playing for one with Bama everyone seems to forget about the AP and state how Saban won the trophy and is going for the second one.

USC still won a national title in 2003. Just because they didn't say BCS means nothing.

It makes for a story for them.

"USC...national title...2003...means nothing."
OK....got it!
OK....got it!

If LSU won just the AP title in 2003, you'd be claiming it. So don't even go there.

"LSU....won AP title...2003."
they did?
they did?

"A"
not "The"
big difference.

So when USC won the BCS and the AP in '04 that gives them 3 titles in 2 years.
Cool.
Cool.

USC never won a championship in 2003, championships are won on the field, UCS won an award from the Associated Press that says their voters thought that it may be possible that USC was a good team that year.
Kind of like the participation trophy your kid gets for playing in a YMCA league.

Fo real? Mind sending me a pic of their 2003 crystal ball?

ESPN radio host on Sunday mornings said as much a few weeks ago. USC did not win the title in 03. Fallacy perpetuated by the media.
LSU was the champion that year.
LSU was the champion that year.

National Championships are won by finishing 1st in a poll at the end of the season. LSU finished 1st in the Coaches Poll, USC finished 1st in the AP Poll.

Now you are using Bama logic

Coaches are obligated to vote the winner of the CG #1 as a result of who scored more.
Not opinion, fact.

And does that team not finish #1 in the poll no matter how they got there?
The AP has been awarding national championships since the 50s. They aren't obligated to go with the BCS. Whoever finishes at the top of their poll is the champion. Does LSU's 1958 title not count since most LSU fans think the AP Poll is a big pile of nothing?

Germans? Everybody knows LSU won a national title in 2003. Everybody knows USC also won a national title in 2003. Its called a "split national championship."

No, but since the BCS started the current 2 team playoff, the errors in identifying the best team has gotten smaller.
The argument used to come from the AP#2: "How the hell does their (#1) undefeated season rank better than our undefeated season?" The line between #1 and #2 is not that great and they only identified one team, even though the best team may be #2, or #3...dicey.
Now the format captures the top two teams and lets them play for it. Surely the best team is one of the top 2. Now the gripe is "Why are they #2 and we're #3?" Like USC in '03. The line between #2 and #3 is fine, but matters less because the field has been expanded from one team to two.
If you extend the playoffs, it becomes clear. If there were 4 teams that played off, #5 would bitch, but surely the best team is among the top 4.
If there were 8 teams #9 would bitch, but the best team is certainly among the top 8.
Anyway, the BCS expanded the field of potential top teams to two, and THEN let them play for it. The coaches' vote is not really a poll but a formality based on the result of competition.
BTW congrats on the UT game. Good stuff.

Damn, I learn new things every day. I thought for sure you actually had to play a National Championship game to win a National Championship.
