Everyone seems to forget that Broussard was having a good year till the injury. He is capable.

Nah. Smith is getting the first shot at SS. At least in the fall. Now That may change come spring but he'll get the first shot

Maybe to start, but I think we can see Garza or Willis take 1st and smith play SS. Hughes will be a defensive sub unless he comes back a new man on offenses

With the class that’s coming in and the known weaknesses of three of those guys, I don’t see how CPM would trot this infield out to open the season. People would riot

Cotton,

If Smith is your SS, who’s the rest of the infield? Got to move Slaughter away from 3B I assume

Garza at 1B/DH with the power potential would be nice to have

I think people will riot if/when he announces Hess as the Friday night starter because of his “experience”. I know I’ll be one of the ones melting haha

What incoming pitchers compete for a weekend spot? Seems we will have about 4-5 guys to choose from with Hess returning

I think Slaughter starts the fall at 3rd base. Broussard at 2nd and probably Garza at 1st.

I could see Dugas and Willis breaking into the starting lineup at some point if necessary.

I'm predicting we see a better slaughter next year. He played well for us the last month of the season. He is a legit elite power threat when he stays patient and sees the breaking ball early. He's shown signs of making that a reality consistently lately.

Garza is going to rake for us. Unless he is a bust then I think he takes over 1st base from day one if he doesn't catch. I THINK he is more of a 1st baseman though.

Broussard showed high promise early in the year before his injury and he also plays a damn fine second base. It's his job to lose.

You just don't want an entire infield made up of younger guys or freshmen. We had that this year. It ain't fun. We've got some experience now and Paul is going to try to use it. And rightfully so

Now full disclaimer I don't know these recruits like Project or Adam do. This is just my best guess and I'm fully willing to admit that I could be wrong.

I only see one or two freshman fielders getting time at this point. Not including the juco transfer at catcher. Pitchers will have more chances.

Yea me too, at least to start. The guys coming back will have dibs on 7 or 8 of the lineup spots

Walker, Hilliard, Hess, Marceaux, Labas and Storz definitely. Sanders will compete for it as well if he sticks around.

ETA: I forgot about Hill.

It's possible that we have 8 guys vying for 4 starting roles. Good problem to have.

You basically have 1st base and DH if you want to count it. But if Bryce comes back and Smith is totally healthy, you can easily go with:

Smith - 3B
Hughes - SS
Broussard- 2B
Slaughter - 1B
Bryce J - DH

To go with the complete returning OF.

That’s a sick lineup tbh.

Well, first base is obviously open. Nobody in the class will beat out Hughes defensively, but if Broussard doesn’t hit like he did pre injury, Dugas could see time at second or 3rd if Smith is SS. DH is also very much open and Cabell has 55 grade power, so I’d say he has a solid chance to play as well.

I don't think we see Hughes start unless Smith is incapable of playing SS and I find that hard to believe

Are we 100% sure Smith will ever play baseball again?

Isn't that basically the same lineup from last year but substituting smith for slaughter?

If you have a loaded offense, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with playing the best defensive SS and giving up 40-50 avg points.

We are not. Would be a tragic thing to happen to a really good player.
