What top program has signed an established coach for less in the last 5 years?

I realize he’s brought Indiana back to relevance but damn. It definitely makes me reconsider my thoughts about the future of coaching contracts.

This may be in anticipation of the $2 billion infusion in cash from the proposed Big 10 venture capital deal.

frick no. These clowns aren’t worth an 1/8th of what they make. I know, I know “they’re worth what people will pay.” But I’m going to tell you right now there is no conceivable way a fricking football Coach is worth what Orgeron or Franklin are being paid to not work.

How is going for an unproven coach working out for Florida. He was “only” 7 years but then got a 3 year extension at the end of last season.

How'd it work out for UGA and Oregon?

I would say the opposite actually, with the portal, NIL and rev share you’re most of the time better off with shorter deals you can get out of if needed. There’s less need to give a coach a long deal for stability.

Which is why you just hire an up and coming coordinator with upside. That's what arguably the three top programs in college football right now have done: Kirby, Ryan Day, Dan Lanning.

And you have a front office managing the personnel like the NFL does and they've begun just hiring first time head coaches too:
Sean Mcvay
Kevin O'Connell
Nick Sirianni
John Harbaugh
Kyle Shanahan
Sean McDermott
Matt Lafleur
Dan Campbell
Mike Tomlin
DeMeco Ryans
Ben Johnson

I’ll give it about a year maybe before there’s a college head coach making 15 million a year. And the DC and OC will be 5+

5 year deals max! When's the last deal that was longer actually paid off?

I wish these coach's contracts were based on win incentives.

Why.... the players, both college and pro, don't have to earn their money.

BK is way overpaid for his results

It's clear that many here do not understand simple economics.

BK is an established coach and has a 73% winning percentage. Meanwhile, folks like Mark Stoops and Drinkwitz are making a million less a year.

For everyone arguing for incentive laded, short term deals, it will never work because another school is always ready to offer a stupid amount.

Why not just keep it simple? $1 mil per win. 9 win season = $9 mil. NC = $16 mil.

For the same reason a CEO of a major company doesn't tie 100% of his income to having a profitable quarter. He doesn't have too and would be a financial moron to do so.

I get it, it would be great if all salaries for all positions at all companies would be straight up performance based. Unfortunately, It just isn't how things are done outside of sales.
