2 for 8
2 walks
2 hbp

I'll take him getting on base 50% of the time

Honestly, it was just nice to not see him bunting half of his at bats like last year

Yes. Even against LHP he did not look overmatched.

I don't recall a bunt attempt this weekend by LSU.

Yeah, I think the only time I held my breath about the possibility of one was when Hanover got plunked in the first at bat of the season, I was like "alright, moment of truth Mainieri"

What was up with the base running today? Got caught stealing a few times and Katz tagged up when he shouldn't have.

I was asking the same question. I didn't mind it at first because I felt like we needed some momentum to get things going, and I like being aggressive against bad competition when you are having a tough time of it. But after the first couple of steals, hit and runs etc. I was like, "ok, thats enough."

Are you talking about the tag up to 3rd after the deep fly to center, where the runner barely made into 3rd safely? If so, I didn't think that was a bad decision. Guy (assuming it was Katz) slipped coming off of 2nd.

No way to tell anything with the teams we played.

He was too far off 2B to begin with and had trouble getting back to tag up. It worked out OK though. I can't complain about that as a baserunning error.

Katz was safe at 3rd despite falling down out of his break. Him tagging up was the correct call.

it looks like they finally stopped trying to hit bombs all the time. They were hitting the ball hard and keeping it out the air

The majority of teams will have to get away from this bc of the new bats.

Our strength is starting pitching, but I don't think it gives us any advantage over the competition. Our staff is probably on par with Arkansas and South Carolina, but still behind Florida.

Our bullpen has the potential to be an advantage, but the 3 main guys (Nola/Rumbelow/Goody) are young and/or unproven. Needless to say, their development will be critical.

The offense is probably going to be a disadvantage all year. We are way behind Florida. I'm still hoping Jones and Rhymes can be .360 guys to fill for Mahtook. Then if Katz can hit around .340 again, Hanover/Nola/Slaid hit .320 and Ross does anything over .270, we'll be better than last year. Its just 3 games, but Yocum looks like a sub .300 hitter. So, it would be really nice if Mainieri can find a reliable .330+ guy out of Moore, Foster, Powell and Sciambra.

It seemed to me that Yocum had the worst at bats overall of the weekend. Lot of bad swings outside of his one double on friday night.

Except in about 83% of our games

Its really all based on perception at this point.

I wouldn't label a kid like that after like 8 at bats.

If we get that kind of production, we'll be hosting a super

Yokom seemed overaggressive at the plate. First weekend--he'll come around.

agree. he squared one up nicely, but right to the outfielder. for that matter, there were losts of ropes hit right to the out fielders. Rhymes seems to be in mid season form, he hit a lot of balls hard.

This happens every year. No way we can make any decisions on players at this point.
