Check your boy out on the 22 yard line (the blue line is denoting the LOS here). He is busy mauling TWO Alabama defenders on his own.

A defensive tackle AND linebacker, no less.

yea but just think how great of a play it would have been if they would have ran to the wide side and not the short side!!!

He was out at the 7. It was conclusive. It was a shame though as the team deserved a TD as the play was run to perfection.

LOL. Well, there is a great chance that had they flipped the formation and tried running it to the wide side that BAMA would not have loaded the strong side as much considering there would not have been a "extra defender" (the sideline) to the wide side.

Football isn't as cut and dry as you think it is.

did someone miss an assignment on this play? looks like a TE was supposed to go in
motion. Nobody moved & A bama defender was unblocked. Almost blew up the play until JJ made the last second pitch.

Great asset if you're like me and relatively ignorant about football and wanna learn more about the scheme and the actual plays on a more granular level.

May I suggest this book:

As Chris Brown points out, this is what makes the play successful. If the bama DE takes Hilliard out, JJ probably turns upfield with the ball (like he always does) and gets caught by the backside after a 3 or 4 yard gain.

It would have sucked seeing that Alabama was stacked on that side. Haven't you been paying attention?

Fords burst was amazing. It would have been the perfect way to end the game, but unfortunately didn't work out.

The play was run to perfection. Difference between that run and the "short side options" in the past, is it really appeared the runner was on his own after getting the ball.

Well. I wonder how much national perception would be changed? LSU 12 ALA 6. Prob not much.

It's designed that way on purpose. The free man belongs to the QB. It's the QB's job to read whether his man plays him or the RB. If he plays the QB then he pitches and eats up a defender. If he plays the ball, he cuts up field and eliminates the defender from the play. It's designed to make the defense play 11 on 11 instead of 10 on 11.

Gotcha, shoulda read the link before posting. I just saw JJ do the foot "send someone in motion" move before the play & nobody moved.

I missed the "luck" part of the analysis. I heard many "LSU was damn lucky to win that game" remarks yesterday.

One of them I refuse to talk to about LSU football until the end of the season. I'm done with him.
