Saban went like 9-4 his last year. Miles comes in and goes 11-2 and Saban tanks in NFL....
Saban went 9-3 is final year. Saban did not tank his first year. He went 9-7 after the Dolphins had gone 4-12 the previous year.
Miles went 11-2 with a stacked roster left to him by Nick Saban. That he did it in the Katrina year is admirable but I wouldn't attribute too much to his coaching acumen.

Very. That's small time thinking. You want a coach that the pros want.
No, you don't if it means you have to do preliminary coaching searches every year and the uncertainty it brings to the recruiting stage.
He listed all of the coaches Tennessee had to go through before they finally got another signature win in 2016 as a example. As an AD, his job is to protect the program as much as it is to make the next great hire.

Saban went 9-2 in his last regular season. 9-3 with the lane duck bowl loss. Second, I thought Saban was superior to Miles in 2005. And I wasn't the only one.
agreed, all i was saying was that people only looking at 11-2 is hard to runoff. The only argument skip woulda had then was no hardware in the form of sec or nattys.....yet while he had won the west in 2005. let's just don't get in that jam again and have a plan next time IF it does happen again.

Maybe we need to start rumors of Hinch's undercover pad in the DAT.

We've learned that LSU missed out on our top targets (Spurrier and meyer) because we were too late to the game. Glad we didn't make that mistake again this time

Took a 9-4 team
LSU was 9-3 in 2004, not 9-4.

went 11-2 and winning the division year one during the Katrina disaster with all the game changes and playing home games at other stadiums, etc
There were a few game changes. Only one home game was played at another stadium.

The next year he goes 11-2 sending a shiz ton of high picks into the draft and wins the Sugar Bowl huge over a traditional power, and the next year he goes 11-2 with an SEC title.
You mean 12-2 with an SEC title AND a national title?

He had a great first three years. According to Skip, he was apparently on Michigan's radar, but not sure who else's. I think that Arkansas thing in 2012 was just a poorly disguised play for more money which we still fell for anyway.

epic interview.
sounds like saban torpedoed jimbo's chances to be hc back in the day.
still angry the top recommendation saban could make was houston nutt.

Keep in mind he also wanted someone that wouldn't embarrass the University.

i wouldn't say that, and Skip alluded to this, that Jimbo wasn't ready yet.

i would imagine saban was looking out for himself. Maybe he knew he could get the LSU job back if Nutt were there and he hated the NFL.

You know, he won the national title in that year.

miles still hates the near TD that mett almost got near the end of the game vs. ole miss in 2011.
Didn't he make him take a knee after that? With like 3 minutes left or something?

Miles turned down Michigan when Hoke got the job and Michigan was offering more money
Skips appears a little confused. He hadn't been the LSU AD for 3 years when that happened. And no way in hell anyone from Mich called Skip, nor did Alleva

think hard. real hard. Why do you suspect he did that?
hmmnnnnnnnnnn let's see
look how jimbo turned out as a HC versus Reverend nuttsack
there's your answer. That was so IF he wanted to come back ....well........and he did......and nuttsack was here...

Of course not. That would mean you would have to give Miles a little credit for what he was able to pull off that season. We wouldn't want that, would we?
I would have liked to see how saban could have done that year with LSU after all the bullshite that Miles and the team had to go through after the hurricanes.
My guess is that saban would have had a breakdown before the month of September was over. Having to share some of the football facilities with people that were homeless after the flooding wouldn't have been something he would have handled very well in my opinion.
What puzzles me is, I can't figure out how saban only won 9 games the year before with the "stacked" roster that Miles was able to win 11 games with. LSU only had around 15 recruits when saban left, so it's not like he had stockpiled a boat load of players for Miles first year.
Lucky ole Les though, right?
