For anyone wondering, Pirates lost by 9 after giving up 10 runs in the 7th after taking out Skenes .

In his career, Ohtani is 2-14 against Skenes with 7 Ks. And he's 0 for his last 10.

At this point just go lay a bet on who is going to pay him a half a billion dollars

Ohtani pitching today vs the Pirates. How do you think Skenes would do at the plate?

He'd probably strike out. What's your point?

Thanks for the interesting stats! Skenes is pretty good I think.

So a typical Pirates game with a Skenes start.

Stupid. Ohtani is known for his bat just as much as his pitching. If not more. Skenes is no hitter at all.

I know competition and not having done it in a while is different but are you saying he was a bad hitter at AF?

Is he batting at the MLB level like Ohtani?

Better than any pitcher in baseball not named Ohtani probably

But still quite poorly.

ETA:

At Air Force, Skenes had these stats at the plate:

BA / OBP / SLG / OPS / HR
.367 / .453 / .669 / 1.121 / 24 HR

Obviously Ohtani is a freak and Air Force isn't the MLB, but I don't know if I'd take any pitcher, other than Ohtani, at the plate in the Majors.

I get that this is an LSU website, but it’s about as relevant as pointing out Skenes striking out Ohtani. Both are elite pitchers in the MLB & strike out a ton of batters

Obviously not.

Skenes is an amazing pitcher and former Tiger and the OP posted a video of him striking out one of the best hitters in the sport. Thats all. Why this triggered you is confusing.

So your point is LSU fans on an LSU website shouldn't celebrate an LSU alumni striking out the best player in baseball?

In the grand scheme of the MLB baseball season the strikeout is obviously irrelevant and I don't think anyone argued otherwise.

Considering he probably hasn't picked up a bat in over 3 years (Almost 4) and last did it in competition at Air Force 4+ years ago, probably very poorly

Here was the last time he picked up a bat at all - fall 2022 at LSU:
2022 Fall baseball hitting stats

Hit .216 but with 5 HRs in fall ball prior to 2023 season

Ohtani strikes out a lot so Skenes getting him isn't something earth shattering.
