He wouldn’t have made the US roster at this point.
He’s eligible for Italy and wants to play baseball.

Do you want to go back to the WBC just being the US, Japan, South Korea, and the DR?
The eligibility rules are so lax because it’s the only way to even pretend to field teams for the tournament. The goal is to grow the game

Netherlands is only good because they have a bunch of Caribbean dudes playing for them from their overseas territories. Puerto Rico is only good because we don’t do the same.

You seem to be missing the point that the entire purpose of the WBC is to grow the game outside of North American/the Caribbean.
Just having Japan, SK, the US, and the Caribbean nations compete every time isn’t fun for anyone and grows the game zero

Aruba and Curaçao aren’t overseas possessions of the Dutch, they’re constituent countries. They’re a part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the same way French Guyana is part of France or Hawaii and Alaska are part of the US.
Puerto Rico is more distant and its own “country” relative to the US.
