Thompson’s offense hasn’t been that great, so this isn’t a case of Johnson sacrificing defense for the sake of offense. It’s clear Johnson feels he is his best option. No one else he’s tried at SS has fielded the position well. Thompson is clearly a liability, but I think it’s also pretty clear there are no other options.

Maybe Johnson should do a Pitching Practice from Hell like Mainieri did with the 2018 team and add in fielding practice from Hell as well. The pitching practice was a wake-up call for that team

But y’all are complaining about errors. What good is range if you boot the double play right to you?

I'm not defending Thompson at all here.

But LOL at anyone thinks that Bianco would be a better option.

Well he had a total of 1 error last year in the field. I’d give him a shot over a guy that is clearly in his head bad right now.

But is it worth to put a dude who is hitting below .200 for career?

This board needs to stop putting the Bianco family on a pedestal.

It is less about loving Bianco and more about realizing when to give up on Thompson at SS. At some point as a coach you need to make a change.

Also, Bianco has a total of 16 ABs this year. Hard to judge an average on that.

YES, They all sucked at SS as bad or worse than Thompson and batted in the low .200’s!

Maybe not but I think it’s worth looking at at some point because we know Thompson ain’t it

He clearly has the yips, but his bat is still more potent than any of the meh on our bench.

Then why the hell are they on this baseball team if they can’t field a ground ball and hit at or above .200?????

because most of them play positions that don’t require you to field anywhere near as many grounders as a SS does.

you do know there is a good reason why nobody puts lefties at SS, right?

He was 1 for 11 this weekend. His bat is no where near good enough to justify his defense

You will have to ask Mainieri that.

Bottom line is LSU does not have a SS that is good enough on this team, to play for a top tier SEC program.

You don’t think there are a dozen other players on this LSU baseball team that can field a ground ball? LOL!

Thats not what your first statement said. You specifically said "better" and at the SS position. That position is a different beast than some of the others. Each one has its own difficulty level, but SS requires range and speed that some other players just don't have. He's the best we've got at SS, it seems.

Was it the midweek game where he had 3 hits? I thought it was Thursday. It was looking like he was playing better until that late error

I’ve never been POTUS either but I know the one we have in there is a fruit loop.

Regardless of your position in this debate, you have to admit that was a great example.
